Found July 19, 2012 on Kukla's Korner:
Well, aside from finding out in the middle of the night that the Red Wings may have been in the pre-nuclear trade discussions for one Shea Weber (a day after we found out that the Wings did their best to bid for Rick Nash—hey, Holland, Nill, Martin and Babcock weren’t working their phones half the time at last week’s developmental camp to check their tee times), Wednesday was a pretty regular day in Hockeytown. The Wings avoided salary arbitration with Kyle Quincey, signing him to a 2-year, $7.55 million deal that will probably look downright sane a year or two from now, but might have been a wee bit more than the Wings were hoping, and, with the exception of Justin Abdelkader, more or less wrapping up the Wings’ summer housekeeping (okay, they have to sign some NHL-ready call-ups from Grand Rapids, but other than that)... Red Wings evening news: Quincey deal ‘close’ per Pleiness and Khan; still waiting on Doan, etc.

Excellent news from the Macomb Daily’s Chuck Pleiness this evening: the Wings will avoid a nasty arbitration hearing with restricted free agent Kyle Quincey, and are likely to ink him to a contract extension soon: “I know we’re close,” said Wings general manager Ken Holland, of the on-going negotiations with Kyle Quincey in a phone interview Tuesday. “We’re hoping to...

Red Wings, Quincey agree to $7.55M, 2-year deal

The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to a $7.55 million, two-year contract with defenseman Kyle Quincey. The team announced the agreement Wednesday that avoided arbitration. Detroit drafted Quincey 132nd overall in 2003 and the Red Wings got him back from Colorado last season for a first-round pick in a three-team trade. He had three points in 18 games with the Red Wings and 23 points...

Red Wings mid-day news: on Datsyuk’s birthday, ‘Red Wings day on PHT’ and Q’s and A’s

This entry covers a little bit of everything, so let’s get started and start with the kind of, well, let’s call it a bipolar focus that Red Wings fans have become accustomed to since Nicklas Lidstrom retired: Happy 34th birthday to Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk! You can wish him a happy birthday here- on.fb.me/QgGkVg— Detroit Red Wings (@DetroitRedWings) July 20, 2012 ...

He’s ‘our’ Jordin Tootoo now: #22 visits Detroit, dons a Red Wings jersey

If you’d told me a month ago that on July 18th, I would have spoken to Mike Babcock for ten minutes during the Wings’ summer development camp, and that Jordin Tootoo would have Tweeted the following, I would have laughed at you: Off to Detroit in the morning ! Looking forward to finding myself a new home.— Jordin Tootoo (@Jtootoo22) July 17, 2012 Jordin Tootoo is indeed...

Red Wings morning report: more about Quincey, Nash, Doan and CBA stuff

With MLive’s Ansar Khan’s Rick Nash bombshell dropped before someone’s internet service went out last night, we’re shifting back to more pedestrian Red Wings news this morning with more discussion about Kyle Quincey and Justin Abdelkader’s contracts. The Free Press’s Helene St. James reports that the Wings will have to submit legal briefs of their stance against Quincey...

Reports: Detroit Red Wings Made ‘Hell of an Offer’ for Rick Nash

The Wings apparently are on Nash's approved list of teams that he'd accept a trade to, but the Blue Jackets have been asking for the moon thus far Continue reading →

Quincey Signed

Well, boys and girls, the Quincey wait is over, he's a Red Wing for at least two more years.   It's roughly what I thought he'd get, maybe a little higher.  @HeleneStJames:  Red Wings settle with RFA D Kyle Quincey for two years, $7.55 million. Now we just wait on Abdelkader.   Any guesses what he'll receive?

Red Wings mid-day news: Not for a lack of trying

I know that failure is not an option around here, and that trying doesn’t count as far as Red Wings fans are concerned, but this Red Wings fan can’t help but give the team an “A for Effort”: over the last three weeks, the Wings have made an in-person pitch to Ryan Suter, MLive’s Ansar Khan told us that the Wings did their best to land Rick Nash, instead of throwing an offer...

Detroit Has The Best Team Corsi

A couple days ago I posted the team Corsi ratings for 2011/12.  This is the difference in shots attempted (shots on goal, missed shots and blocked shots) taken by a team minus those taken against a team in five on five situations.  It is a strong indicator of a team’s puck possession ability.  This is an important repeatable part of a team’s success or failure.  It clearly...

Minnesota Not Wild About Mike Modano Comeback?

Mike Modano seemed through with hockey after sitting out all of last season, but the 42-year-old saw a couple of fellow 40+ stars rekindle some old magic, while one franchise broke the bank in the city where Modano once called home, intriguing one of the best ever American born players to consider a comeback. Modano has said he started working out again, but not necessarily...

Red Wings overnight report: the aggressive pursuit of all available options for improvement

The difference between a general manager and Red Wings fans like you and me is that Ken Holland can’t afford to be frustrated by, or, given by this blog’s comments section of late, join Wings fans in either attempting to break his ankles jumping off the bandwagon or impale himself upon the nearest sharp object simply because the Red Wings have yet to land their big fish. Zach...

Red Wings overnight report: more on the Wings’ RFA’s, Doan and the waiting game

Earlier on Monday evening, MLive’s Ansar Khan reported that Red Wings GM Ken Holland is attempting to ink the Wings’ restricted free agents, Kyle Quincey and Justin Abdelkader, to new contracts. This morning, the Free Press’s Helene St. James reports that the Wings are actually a little further along in the negotiating process with both players than Khan reported… The Wings...
