TUESDAY'S STORY LINE: After Niklas Backstrom's solid performance Saturday against Colorado, coach Mike Yeo said there was consideration given to throwing the goalie back in Sunday against Dallas. But the coaches decided to give Josh Harding his first start of the season instead. "I think it is important early in this year that we give both guys a chance to get a feel and get some games in," Yeo said. Managing goalies' ice time is one of the challenges coaches face in the compact season, but Yeo and the Wild are fortunate to have two goalies they can rely on. Harding was excellent against the Stars on Sunday in his first start since being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He stopped all 24 shots he faced and earned his seventh career shutout. Yeo said Harding "feels great," but the Wild will put Backstrom back in the nets Tuesday when they face off against Nashville. "We got a lot of games in a short period of time," Yeo said. "It is important that both goalies are getting into a groove." HE SAID IT: "You build relationships with coaches and your teammates for the last eight years for me. It is tough to play against them, but it is part of professional sport. You have balance that, and you know you have to play hard." -- Ryan Suter on facing his old team Tuesday night

Going Cup Wild In Minnesota

from Brian Cazeneuve of Sports Illustrated, Sure, hockey-crazed Minnesota has yearned for a successful team in the NHL, but a winning Wild would also be just as good for the league as it tries to recover from the long lockout that bruised its image. While Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles have won the last three Stanley Cup titles, Minnesota is hockey's answer to Green Bay...

Wild will travel more than any NHL team

ST. PAUL, Minn. Zach Parise might want to invest in a good travel pillow after signing his big contract with the Minnesota Wild. Parise, who grew up in the Twin Cities, was well aware of what he was in for when he agreed to a 13-year contract last summer. He didn't need much of a tour of his new surroundings and was well aware of the brutal winters. There is one big adjustment...

Suter looks to knock off former team

Led by star newcomers Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, the Minnesota Wild are looking to complete a perfect season-opening homestand and continue their best start in four years. To do so, they'll have to knock off Suter's former team, the Nashville Predators, who begin their road schedule Tuesday night trying to shake off back-to-back shootout losses. Minnesota (2-0-0) is enjoying...

Fresh from Nashville, Suter still settling in

ST. PAUL, Minn. Ryan Suter is still trying to get used to playing with his new Minnesota Wild teammates following a crash-course, six-day training camp. The NHL lockout left Suter with limited time to adjust to new surroundings, and the quick training camp was followed by the emotion of debuting at home in Saturday's season opener. Then seeing his former team on the other bench...

Wild bruiser poses with pet bunny, tweets pic of gash to nose that needed 30 stitches

(Photo credit: Marlin Levison, Star Tribune) Joking that he’s now “better looking again,” Minnesota Wild enforcer Zenon Konopka’s sense of humor appeared to be intact after 30 stitches were needed to close up a gash to the bridge of his nose suffered in the Wild’s season-opening 4-2 over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul. Konopka...

Wild opener was highest-rated regular-season game ever on FOX Sports North

Saturday's Minnesota Wild game was the highest-rated regular season Wild telecast ever on FOX Sports North. The Wild's 4-2 win versus Colorado generated a 7.65 household rating in the MinneapolisSt. Paul DMA, according to Nielsen Media Research. That easily tops the previous regular-season high of 4.6 set Dec. 13, 2011 versus the Jets. Sunday's matchup against the Stars...

Predator Martin Erat scored a Wild goal last night

Minnesota Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom got caught in no man's land as Nashville Predator Martin Erat beared down on him last night. Somehow Erat was able to knock down the keeper's clearing... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~ http://www.bobsblitz.com

Predators Get First Win of the Season in Minnesota

The Preds snuck past the Minnesota Wild and Ryan Suter to get their first win of the 2013 abbreviated season. With goals by Spaling and Erat, Nashville competed all game but never looked like the best team on the ice. They had trouble handling Minnesota's top two lines and, in true Predators form, struggled to set up offensively. But none the less, the Preds avoided overtime...

Aeros' snap 6-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over Milwaukee

I think just about anyone in the world understands the emotions that come with disappointment.  For kids, it might be the disappointment they didn't get that gift they really wanted.  For adults it might be being being rejected by an employer or maybe being denied a promotion.  The disappointment is tough to deal with and a person may feel as though they are stuck in an emotional...

Harding earns shutout in return to net

ST. PAUL, Minn. Josh Harding said he couldn't sleep well Saturday night knowing he would be in net Sunday for the Minnesota Wild in the second game of a back-to-back to open the season. Harding has played 118 games in the NHL. Nervousness like Harding was experiencing shouldn't come from a seven-year veteran. Sunday wasn't just any start for Harding. Sunday was his...

Preds focused on Wild, not Suter

For the first time since last summer, Shea Weber and the Predators face off against Ryan Suter and the Wild...

3rd period mistake proves costly in 3-1 loss to Nashville

I used to frequent a wide variety of message boards back in the day, one of the best was good ol' Fanhome.  Fanhome was a site that had mini-message boards for all 30 of the league's teams and each board had a tight knit group of posters and some forums were more friendly than others.  One team I must admit I have a weakness for is the Nashville Predators.  I guess when...

Predators 3, Wild 1

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Martin Erat took advantage of a costly Wild turnover, scoring his first goal of the season into an empty net as the Nashville Predators won their first game of the season, 3-1 at Minnesota. Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom came out to play a loose puck, but could not get it past Erat, who intercepted the puck and scored with just over eight minutes left in the third...

Predators grab first win of the season, knock off the Wild 3-1

Photo Credit: AP Photo/Genevieve Ross Martin Erat’s game-winning goal at 11:45 of the third period would be the difference maker for Nashville as the Predators got their first win of the season, first road win of the year, and topped the Minnesota Wild tonight 3-1. Tonight’s matchup was the first time the Predators and Ryan Suter had met since Suter’s departure to the Wild...
