Chelsea ace Samuel Eto’o has revealed he came ‘within hours’ of signing for Arsenal – only for a chance phone call from former Spain boss Luis Aragones to sway him.
The Cameroon international says he was on the cusp of putting pen-to-paper to join Arsene Wenger in north London in 2000 but rejected the switch at the last minute.
Eto’o instead moved to Real Mallorca after their then manager Aragones hijacked the switch at the last moment.
‘I was about to sign that very afternoon at Arsenal but then Luis Aragones the Mallorca manager called me and convinced me’ he told The Sun.
