Mistakes? Yes. Results? Most Definitely! Bucs beat Dolphins 20-7

It was a day of Yes. Yes, it was preseason. But did the Bucs look like a better football team? Yes.Yes we know it didnt count, but did Greg Schiano and the Bucs offense show resolve by going for it on 4th down and scoring an opening drive touchdown? Yes.Not everyone will look at last nights Bucs 20-7 win the same, but here are some of my observations after now watching my 33rd preseason...

Bucs Sleepers- The ones you dont account for

Your in your brand new 2012 Ford Mustang with a 5.0 and your at a red light. You look over and you see a car you have no clue what make or model it is, save from the Chevy stickers that are faded on the windows, and the primer grey color that sort of has the car resembling one solid color. The light turns green, and the car that looks like its held together by duct tape and...

Hall of Fame game is what we've been waiting for

Baseball- very good. Tampa Bay Rays are spoiling us by being contenders year in and year out. It helps.Basketball- March Madness makes the first football-less month go by a little less noticeably. Key word: A little.Oh sure the Olympics are amazing, but lets be honest, what are you going to be watching tonight? A practice game between a team we love to hate, and the Arizona Cardinals...

Bucs have found a new formula for team building

I was chief among the Raheem Morris supporters since he was promoted to Head Coach in 2009. I had followed Morris' carreer since rejoining the Bucs in 2007 after the defense fell apart during the departure of himself and a few other key coaches following the 2005 division championship team, a Bucs squad that had more potential to do damage in the playoffs than anyone has ever...

Ronde Barber- Corner that we used to know

The problem with numbers is the sheer size sometimes escapes your imagination. You look at a digital clock that says 4:21 and you feel like its four thirty; see it on an analog face clock and you think its only quarter after. Numbers increase by adding zeros on the end, but the real effect of each digit is harder to measure unless its against something tangible. If your a million...

Josh Freeman: Now the seasoned veteran?

In his rookie year, Josh Freeman threw a handful of interceptions at Carolina playing against the Panthers. The following year, Freeman was flawless as the Bucs beat the Cats to climb to 2-0. Josh Freeman learned from his mistakes, and he has a lot of ammunition from 2011 to fall back on for next season. For starters, Freeman is a young QB, closer in age to the currect crop of rookies...

Coach Schiano has the right attitude missing from previous regimes

One of the things I pick up when I listen to Bucs Head Coach Greg Schiano, is his level of confidence. To me, Schiano has the confidence of Jon Gruden, without the smuggness or self absorption. Gruden would tell you he was gonna beat you, and if he did, he'd let everyone know. But if he didnt, he'd tell you it was because of injuries.Schiano comes across more Dungyesque in...

More blackout info...

It's now quite clear the the NFL Blackout policy is in limbo, and the real controler of the policy is unknown to me at this time. The Wall Street Journal has published an article claiming the NFL has approved an 85% blackout rule for this year, that as long as 85% of the stadium is blacked out before 72 hours of an NFL game, it can be broadcast on local TV. It was under my impression...

Blackouts lifted? Only if Congress acts...

Interesting article on Pewter Report that the NFL may change the blackout policy to 85% of a sell out. Goes against what the blackout rule is though, and thats an act of congress. Follow my original article here....  http://bucstop.com/2011-articles/august/the-truth-about-nfl-blackout-rules.html

Bucs are a better rushing team with Doug Martin starting, Blount in relief.

There are some feelings that the new Tampa Bay Buccaneer running back Doug Martin will be a third down complimentary back; dont sell him to that position just yet! Doug Martin is a first round draft pick; for some perspective, Warrick Dunn was selected in the 2nd round. Martin is an every down back who can catch the ball and can pass block; two things LeGarrette Blount cannot do...

OUCH! Bucs face the NFC EAST Beasts early in 2012 Schedule!

The Bucs will try to rebound with new Head Coach Greg Schiano by taking on what was always the toughest division in football for 3 of the first 4 games. But the kicker? The Bucs will get some 4pm national games, including the season opener at home vs the Carolina Panthers at 4:15 PM! Finally a cool one for the Bucs faithful! Then road games vs the NY Giants and Dallas Cowboys, preceed...

Bucs sign Doug Williams to return as Back Up veteran QB

The search for a veteran signal caller to help with Josh Freeman's development has come to an end. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have also dramatically solved the issue of reconnecting with their first ever Signal caller who has been estranged lately.Despite being 56 and becoming the oldest active player on a roster in the league, Doug Williams signing a 1 year tender for the NFL...

Hey Bill Sheridan- Yeah we know what a one gap defense is.

Brand New Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan had a press conference today, and he seemed to be really impressed with the fact the Tampa Bay media all spoke english. And we know how to count too Bill.In the middle of his PC, Bill was asked whether or not the Bucs would run a 4-3 or 3-4. He first replied "Good Question" and proceeded to tell Tampa Bay...

Are the Bucs settling for Bill Sheridan?

New defensive Coordinator Bill Sheridan has a Super Bowl ring for his NY Giants defense in 2007, but he was the linebackers coach. As defensive coordinator, he was run out of town after his Giants Defense lost 8 of last 11 games, giving up 40 points or more 5 times in one year. Is this the track record we're looking for to be the next Monte Kiffin? Understand that Kiffin wasnt...

Schiano and Mike Sullivan add potential, but Glazers hold real key to Bucs success

The talk of the town is new Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano and even newer offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan. And as well it should be; Schiano has a history of turning around a small college program known for losing, and Sullivan was the QB coach for none othere than NY Giants QB Eli Manning. Problem is, while these two hires offer a lot of optimism, its the Glazers...

Butch Davis is an amazing hire- Expect Talent

Ive heard some people quote Butch Davis' record lately, and at North Carolina, another football starved program similar to Rutgers, Davis made the program respectable. But more importnant than that for the Bucs, Butch Davis knows how to spot talent. Take a look at how NFL teams are drafting his North Carolina players!Robert Quinn was DE taken in first round of 2011 NFL draft...

Greg Olsen goes to Jacksonville?

Dont get me wrong, I think Greg Olsen is ok, I dont want him back here coaching anything, but I dont think he is horrible either. But Jacksonville? A team that had the Bucs right where they wanted them..down 14-0, and poored it on for a 41-14 win? Did they not realize this game was the nail in the coffin for Raheem Morris and his entire staff? Or were they that impressed with Olsen...

Bucs assistant coaches dropping like flies

University of Florida Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has turned down the Tampa Bay  Buccaneers job offer of same position. History shows the Bucs have a good shot at winning next year

We all know what a remarkable job the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did in 2010, improving their record by SEVEN games going from 3-13 in 2009 to 10-6 in 2010. But the  Bucs fell hard in 2011, going 4-12, and sadly, that statistically was expected by people who follow such numbers. But what about year 4, and year 5? Well good news Bucs fans, because the studies show that the Bucs, like most...
