The Latest On The New York Rangers’ Coaching Hunt

from Larry Brooks of the NY Post, The leader in the clubhouse would be Alain Vigneault. That, of course, excludes the other leader in the clubhouse named Mark Messier. This is the state of the Rangers’ search for a coach that paused yesterday following Vigneault’s visit on Tuesday with general manager Glen Sather and front office personnel at the club’s organizational...

Starkey:  Lemieux, Burkle Endorse Status Quo

From Joe Starkey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.  Starkey lists the majority of bullets for those not agreeing with a contract extension for Penguins Head Coach Dan Bylsma. Instead, they essentially told the world — via Shero — that they are accepting of the hideous playoff implosions that have marked the past four springs. The Montreal meltdown.  The Tampa Bay...

Canada’s Goaltending Problems

from Jordan Heath-Rawlings of Sportsnet, A newspaper headline in early May summed the situation up: “Mike Smith makes case for Canada’s 2014 Olympic team.” And somewhere, Patrick Roy, Ed Belfour or Brodeur did a spit-take with their morning cornflakes. Mike Smith? The 31-year-old laid out a biography that would, to put it politely, make him unique among NHLers who have...

Round 1 Goes To The Blackhawks

from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail, It was, first-and-foremost, a purely fascinating study in the art of playoff hockey, all momentum swings and desperation plays, almost two games for the price of one. These were two teams – the Chicago Blackhawks and the Boston Bruins - presumably aware that whoever drew first blood in the Stanley Cup final would have a significant...

No Update On Nathan Horton Injury

from Joe McDonald of ESPN Boston, "Nothing right now because there's nothing to say because our doctors haven't finalized the evaluation properly," Julien said. KK- Is It Too Early To Make An Offer You Should Not Refuse

I've been doing what I do long enough to know readership goes down and the post-season progresses, then picks up as we get closer to the UFA period, then drops again in late July until the middle of August or so. This season has been one where I feel like I have been in "catch-up" mode since losing some five months due to the lockout. I wanted to do something for...

For now, it’s a rumor, but Sergei Fedorov *could* lace up his skates for CSKA Moscow one last time

When former Red Wings forward Sergei Fedorov took the reins as the general manager of CSKA Moscow last summer, the plan was to get Fedorov into the uniform of his first professional hockey team for at least a game or two so that the 43-year-old could bid farewell to the game on the ice... But the NHL lockout changed that, and as CSKA's shaking up its coaching and management...

Red Wings overnight report: Griffins take Game 3, Babcock praises Glendening; are Wings ‘done on d?’

The Grand Rapids Griffins' 4-2 victory over the Syracuse Crunch in Game 3 of the Calder Cup Final had some Red Wings-tinged moments, and some of them didn't recall pleasant memories: on the game's first goal, Richard Panik boarded Adam Almquist, who crumpled to the ice in the Griffins' left corner, and play was allowed to continue until Panik scored. The same Panik...

Game One

The longest game of the 2013 playoffs so far is over.  Chicago wins 4-3 in triple overtime after 112:08 of game play. Andrew Shaw was credited with the game winning goal on a deflection.  I have always been a big fan of long overtime games like that.  I think the biggest we saw in this game that could be important comes to the way Boston managed their bench in a poor way....

Grand Rapids Griffins take Game 3 of Calder Cup Final 4-2 over Syracuse, but lose Almquist

The Grand Rapids Griffins had a rough go at times during their 3-2 win over the Syracuse Crunch, surrendering the game's first goal and a game-tying goal late in the second period, but the tightly-contested game--went the Griffins' way in the end. The Crunch took a 1-0 lead on what should have been a controversial play halfway through the first period: Richard Panik boarded...
