Wednesday afternoon news and notes

Well, after some technical difficulties yesterday, things are almost back to normal at the site. The  part of the site that still isn’t working just right though only effects me. Have you noticed the improved speed of the site in the last 24 hours? It’s night and day and I couldn’t be happier about that. I wrote yesterday, though the post did disappear for a while when the...

Undergoing Maintenance

There was a hiccup in communication and while the site is now on the new server, as you can see we have gone back in time to nearly two weeks ago. The posts and comments aren’t lost at all, but they just haven’t made it over yet. I’m currently working on getting the issue resolved and hope to have everything back up and resolved shortly.   Thanks for understanding.

Where will the Cincinnati Reds Advanced-A club be for 2015?

The Cincinnati Reds and Bakersfield Blaze player development contract expired at the end of the season. The Reds had been in Bakersfield for the last four years, having signed two two-year deals with the team. Today begins a two-week stretch where MLB organizations and minor league franchises play “Let’s Make a Deal” and affiliations will shift through the minor leagues. Deals...

What would you like to see this offseason from the site?

As we head into the minor league offseason the coverage here changes drastically from daily coverage of games and a feature article each day to hardly any game coverage at all with just updates from things going on in the various winter leagues where guys are playing. Each year I ask you guys what kind of things you would like to see during the fall/winter, so here we are again....

Cincinnati Reds Minor League All-Star Team

This is not the Cincinnati Reds official All-Star Team or Awards that are handed out at Redsfest each year. This is my own opinion on the best guy at each position for the 2014 season. This is not a prospect list and prospects don’t get any extra nod over a player who may not be as highly ranked. Levels played at, defense and even park factors are applied in my weighing of the...

Cincinnati Reds David Holmberg continues his turn around

After a very rough start to the 2014 season at the big league level where his ERA was 18.56 in the first two starts David Holmberg has put together three straight good appearances. The first was as a reliever where he tossed a shutout inning of work. It was a good sign as he had never had an appearance, over three previous starts in his career, where he hadn’t given up at least...

Daniel Corcino finds success in his first MLB start

Last night Daniel Corcino stepped in to make a spot start for Mat Latos (bone bruise) on short notice. The 23-year-old right hande needed just 79 pitches to get through 6.0 innings before exiting the game. He allowed two runs on two hits, a walk and he struck out four Brewers. The start came a full week after his last appearance on September 5th, so he had plenty of rest to work...

Three Cincinnati Reds made Baseball America All-Star teams

I will be writing up my Cincinnati Reds organizational All-Stars for Monday, but today the guys over at Baseball America released their 2014 All-Stars by each level in the minor leagues. There were three Reds represented over two different levels. Ben Lively was named to the Advanced-A All-Star team for what he was able to do in Bakersfield. Lively only spent the first half with...

Scouting right handed relievers Ben Klimesh and Kyle McMyne

The 2014 Cincinnati Reds bullpen has been through its fair share of struggles. Outside of Aroldis Chapman and Jumbo Diaz, no one currently in the bullpen has an ERA under 3.50. Only Sam LeCure finds himself under the 4.00 mark from the rest of the guys in the bullpen. A former strength of the team has been a source of issues in 2014 and moving forward it would seem that there are...

Three Cincinnati Reds selected in Dominican Winter League Draft

On Thursday afternoon the six Dominican Winter League teams got together to hold their annual draft. Their draft is not necessarily about guys that will play this year, though some may, but more about having the rights to the players in the future should they be deemed ready to play at the Dominican Winter League level. Last year there were only two positions players from the system...

Wednesday All Questions Answered

It’s the second Wednesday of the month and that means I will be answering questions all day long. The rules are rather simple and the same as always: Avoid questions that will require me to look up the answers (such as: Who was the last minor leaguer to hit 26 home runs who had a last name that began with an R) Avoid questions that will require more than a paragraph to answer...

In a must win game for the Bakersfield Blaze on Monday night Jeff Gelalich stepped it up as he drove in four runs. The outfielder hit a bases clearing double in the sixth inning and added a solo home run in the eighth to keep the Blaze alive for at least one more day. This follows the game on Sunday where he drove in two runs and reached base three times. Shortstop Zach Vincej got...

Prospect Watch: Brian O’Grady steps up for the playoffs

The Billings Mustangs began the 2014 Pioneer League playoffs with a big time over Great Falls. The Mustangs scored 10 runs in a 10-3 victory and were led offensively by leadoff hitter Brian O’Grady who went 2-4 with a double, walk, home run, two stolen bases, two runs scored and four runs driven in. One of those steals? It was of home. Yeah, that’s what we call getting it done...

It’s time for the Cincinnati Reds to play their call ups

The Cincinnati Reds 2014 season is over. While they aren’t eliminated yet, they are eliminated. Last night they lost 14-5 to the New York Mets. The team is 11 games back of first place. They are not making the playoffs. Even if the team were to win out, the odds still aren’t good that they would make the playoffs. Yet in last night’s loss, the lone position player call up that...

In the final regular season game Josciel Veras reached base three times by going 2-3 with a walk and he also scored a run.
