A heavyweight clash between Joseph Parker and Fabio Wardley is reportedly close for October 25, as we look at how the fight could play out.

Parker, the WBO Interim Heavyweight Champion, is searching for an opponent after stopping Martin Bakole in February. The victory included his impressive run, with wins over Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang. As for Wardley, the 30-year-old secured a 10th-round knockout victory over Justis Huni in June. The winner will be in a prime position to face the undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. Alternatively, the WBO belt could be on the line if Usyk vacates after the WBO ordered him to face Parker.

The Tactics

The potential matchup between Parker and Wardley is a tactical battle. Parker’s path to victory lies in his technical proficiency and ring IQ. Under Andy Lee, Parker has developed a snapping jab, and well-timed combinations. Parker will likely look to use his superior footwork to stay on the outside and avoid getting into a brawl.

Parker will use his jab to control the distance, score points, and set up his sharp right hand. A key component of his strategy will be to make Wardley miss and pay for his aggression. We saw this game plan work to perfection in his upset victory over Deontay Wilder.

Wardley’s game plan will be a direct assault on Parker’s measured approach. Wardley is known for his immense power, high punch output, and the ability to rally from behind. His come-from-behind knockout victory over Justis Huni is a perfect example. Wardley’s strategy will be to cut off the ring, smother Parker’s movement, and unleash his power shots to the head and body. He will likely try to corner Parker and force him to exchange. And with a title shot on the line, the match-up is an intriguing one.
