Moses Itauma has just received likely his biggest compliment to date, courtesy of a former world champion.
Steamrolling through his most recent challenge, the unbeaten Moses Itauma turned in a devastating win over Dillian Whyte, finishing the veteran with a hellacious opening round knockout win.
And linked with a host of matchups next, from the likes of Joseph Parker in a future title fight — to a showdown for undisputed gold already opposite Oleksandr Usyk, Itauma is rising quickly amongst his peers.
However, given his quickfire rise, Itauma is already drawing comparisons to one of the biggest punchers in the sport’s long history.
Offering some massive praise to the Slovak-born contender, former WBA super middleweight champion George Groves has claimed Itauma is fast approaching comparisons to decorated former heavyweight titleholder Mike Tyson.
To boot, Groves claims if anybody could make a stunning part of boxing history, it’s Itauma — off the back of comparisons to Catskills knockout ace Tyson.

“Moses is a tough one to match for me. Everyone who wants to fight him now probably wants to get paid mega money,” Groves said via DAZN. “He’s a main event fighter now, so who’d you match him with?
“That might be a problem for us fight fans because every time we tune in, there’s this new Mike Tyson and all of a sudden, it’s over in 2 minutes,” Groves continued. “It might be the future, having multiple opponents in one night.”
Interestingly enough, this is not the first occasion in which Itauma has been mentioned in the same conversation as history-making heavyweight icon Tyson.
Gushing over Itauma’s performance en route to his devastating finish over Whyte earlier this summer, decorated former world champion Roy Jones Jr. offered massive praise to the Slovakian challenger.
As far as Pensacola native Jones is concerned, Itauma’s finish of Port Antonio stalwart Whyte reminded him of a younger Tyson en route to his world heavyweight title success.
“Dillian Whyte was a guy who could get hit, and he got him out of there. That is exactly how a young Mike Tyson rolled,” Jones Jr. told talkSPORT.
“Mike did that on his way up. I like this from Moses because it is something exciting that he could get to almost what Mike Tyson did.
“That’s a beautiful thought, he may be better or he may not get there, but his potential is seriously exciting.”
