Stephen A. Smith calls UConn the ‘Michael Jordans of college basketball’ after their back-to-back National Championship victories
Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

UConn Huskies defeated Purdue Boilermakers 75-60 on Monday to win their second national championship in a row. The team received a lot of love from the basketball world including some of the experts of the game.

On ESPN’s First Take, NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith had high praise for the NCAA men’s college basketball championship team. Smith mentioned UConn’s undefeated record uring national championship games, comparing the team’s 6-0 record to an NBA legend.

They're the Michael Jordans of college basketball, why? because in their six national titles 1999, 2004, 2011, 2014, and obviously back-to-back this year. They're 6-0 in national championships games. Stephen A. Smith said

Smith claimed that Michael Jordan was also 6-0 in the NBA finals during his time with the Chicago Bulls. Further, Smith took the opportunity to praise UConn’s head coach Dan Hurley, and the performance of the entire team in the finals. The analyst explained why the team deserved their title based on their fantastic offensive and defensive performance.

The Huskies’ win was historical as they became the first team to win back-to-back championships since 2006. The team is now tied with North Carolina for the third most championships of all time. The team also set a new record for highest point differential in one NCAA men’s tournament.

Dan Hurley says UConn has been running college basketball

The UConn Huskies’ two-time champion head coach Dan Hurley was certainly hyped after the team’s 6th win in history. After the Huskies win on Monday, during the championship ceremony, Hurley made a bold statement.

For the last 25-30 years, UConn's been running college basketball. Dan Hurley said

The coach is not wrong as the Huskies have proven his statement in both men’s and women’s sports. The women’s team has won a total of eleven national championships which are the most in their franchise history. The team has been setting the bar high for more than two decades now.

As the men’s team now has won twice, HC Hurley is looking to form a dynasty and win for the third time next year. Considering the Huskies run in both branches this season, the teams certainly have a chance to extend their list of titles. The future of Connecticut is precisely in good hands with stars like Donovan Clingan and Paige Bueckers on their rosters.
