Dolly Parton is an icon, and she's not afraid to try different things. Having a theme park, for example. She sells all sorts of foods with her name on it, including but not limited to pancake mix. Then, of course, there are the musical collaborations not all of them expected. Sure, when she does something with her goddaughter Miley Cyrus, nobody is surprised. However, Dolly's most-recent collab is with hair metal royalty Motley Crue. She appears on a new version of the Crue hit "Home Sweet Home."
"Home Sweet Home" first came out in 1985, so this revamped version of a 40th-anniverary offering from the band. They decided to kick it up a notch by getting a musician on board who is as iconic as she is available for work. Both Dolly and Motley Crue released statements expressing the honor and privilege it was to work with the other party.
Plus, there is an element of charity in the mix here as well. A portion of the proceeds to Covenant House, an organization that provides assistance to homeless youth in need of such help.
There is, of, course an element of curiosity at work here. A country legend and one of the more mindless hair metal acts (which is really saying something) joining forces has a rubbernecking quality to it. However, that's not to say there isn't an element of musicianship in Motley Crue, and of course Dolly Parton is, you know, Dolly Parton. She's a fan of a cover, including doing a version of "What's Up?" by 4 Non-Blondes and sorry that song is going to be stuck in your head now.
Both the Crue and Dolly have other stuff going on. Motley Crue have a Vegas residency coming up this September, while a Dolly musical is about to debut in Nashville en route to hitting Broadway in 2026.
