Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang speaks out one year after his death: 'It's just so unfair'

Eddie Van Halen died one year ago today (Oct. 6) at 65 years old.

The Van Halen guitarist and co-founder's only child, a son named Wolfgang, has spoken out on the first anniversary of his death:

The photo of a beaming Eddie touching Wolfgang's head while both hold guitars is captioned with the following:

"One year. You fought so hard for so long, but you were still taken away. It’s just so unfair. I’m not ok. I don’t think I’ll ever be ok. There’s so much I wish I could show you. So many things I wish I could share with you. I wish I could laugh with you again. I wish I could hug you again. I miss you so much it hurts. I’m trying to do my best here without you, but it’s really f—king hard. I hope you’re still proud. I love you with all of my heart, Pop. Watch over me."

Wolfgang, 30, was the one to publicly break the news of Eddie's passing, citing a "long and arduous battle with cancer":

According to TMZ,  the official cause listed on Eddie's death certificate as a stroke.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee shared Wolfgang with actress Valerie Bertinelli, his wife from 1981 until their separation in 2001 and finalized divorce in 2007.

"Besides the fact that he is ridiculously talented, I'm most proud of his kindness and thoughtfulness," Bertinelli told People of her son in June. "I think we both like to find humor in the absurd. This world is a seriously crazy place and it's easier to get through it by finding it funny and absurd. Sometimes laughing is better than crying."
