Gladiator II has met its first audiences ahead of the US release this Friday, and the box office numbers are off to a flying start for Ridley Scott's follow-up to his critically acclaimed film from 2000.

The first reviews, which called the film "pure camp", "entertaining", and "a fun romp", got the ball rolling early last week, and now that is translating into box office dollars across its opening weekend.

Starring Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, and Derek Jacobi, with Connie Nielsen and Denzel Washington, Gladiator II has been one of the year's most highly anticipated films.

With star power, an already established fanbase, and a legendary director at the helm, Gladiator II opened to $87 million in international ticket sales across its opening weekend, making it the best overseas debut for Ridley Scott, as per Variety.

It has also become Paramount Pictures' biggest international opening weekend for an R-rated movie.

Gladiator II is already making waves, and on Friday, it will meet even more audiences, opening in the US, Canada, China, and other territories, where people are ready and waiting to be entertained.
