Watch: Marvel's new 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' trailer

The debut trailer for Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings dropped online today, giving fans a first look at the titular "Master of Kung Fu."

As we have come to expect from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the first trailer is light on actual plot details but we do get an introduction to Shang-Chi (played by Simu Liu), along with getting to see him do some totally killer martial arts while destroying anyone foolish enough to throw hands against him.

What we are shown in the trailer makes it clear that the film will be departing a bit from Shang-Chi's comic book origins to both modernize the story and to make it fit more cleanly into the rest of the MCU. In the comics, Shang-Chi is the son of Fu Manchu, a character that many have deemed as reinforcing negative stereotypes about Asian culture.

In the trailer, we are introduced to Shang-Chi's cinematic father, Wenwu (played by Tony Leung), who is also known as The Mandarin. While The Mandarin was previously teased as a controversial fake-out in Iron Man 3, it looks like we are getting the real thing here.

The central conflict of the trailer is centered around Shang-Chi being forced to confront his father and his past, as Wenwu is the leader of the Ten Rings, a terrorist organization. He reveals that he allowed his son to live a normal life - including making friends with Awkwafina - for the last 10 years but now, he expects him to take over the family business, which Shang-Chi doesn't seem too crazy about.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings hits theaters on September 3.
