Cal Quantrill took the mound for the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday night in Game 4 of the ALDS in hopes of helping his team wrap up the series and advance to the ALCS for the first time since 2016.

Unfortunately for Quantrill and the Guardians, the New York Yankees had other plans.

Jumping out to an early 3-0 lead, the Yankees managed to get Quantrill out of the game by the sixth inning.

Quantrill, who went 15-5 with a 3.38 ERA in 32 starts, made it through five innings, but took the hard luck loss as the Yankees forced Game 5.

In 34 career regular season starts at Progressive Field, Quantrill had not lost.

Last night, he lost his first postseason start at Progressive Field.

Quantrill Takes Hard Luck Loss

Quantrill has essentially been a sure thing at home during his career.

But the unexpected always seems to take place when October comes around, and such was the case for Quantrill on Sunday night in Game 4.

Despite keeping the Guardians in the game, it wasn’t enough for him to avoid taking his first career loss at Progressive Field.

The series now heads back to New York tied for a deciding Game 5.

Quantrill allowed just four hits on Sunday and struck out three batters while allowing just one walk in the Guardians’ Game 4 loss.

This is an unfortunate way to have a streak end.

Quantrill had been dominant at home in the regular season, but finally took his first loss at home in the postseason.

Baseball is a strange game that works in mysterious ways, and it showed last night.

Game 5 will get underway at 7:07 p.m. Eastern Time tonight, with a trip to the ALCS and a date with the Houston Astros on the line.
