Arizona Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen Continues to Make History on the Mound
USA TODAY Sports

The upstart Arizona Diamondbacks won again on Tuesday, beating the Colorado Rockies, 5-1.

With the win, the D'Backs are now 32-23 and just 1.5 games out of first place in the National League West.

Equally as impressive as the team's success this year is the success of starting pitcher Zac Gallen.

Gallen got the win on Tuesday, moving his personal record to 7-2 on the season. He's now got a 2.72 ERA and has struck out 82 batters in 72.2 innings.

He's also on a historic run, as evidenced by @OptaSTATS on Twitter:

Zac Gallen over his last 12 appearances at home for the @Dbacks

10-1 record

0.68 ERA

0.68 WHIP

He's the first MLB pitcher to have 10+ wins with an ERA and WHIP both under 0.70 over a span of 12 home appearances since Walter Johnson did it from June 12 to September 15, 1917.

This stretch for Gallen obviously dates back to last season and any time you can do something that hasn't been done in more than 100 years, consider us impressed.

Gallen is building off a strong season last year so the true breakout is certainly upon us. He went 12-4 last season for Arizona.

Lifetime, Gallen is 29-24 with a 3.04 ERA.

The Diamondbacks will play the Rockies again on Wednesday night. First pitch is slated for 9:40 p.m. ET as Tommy Henry pitches for Arizona against Dinielson Lamet.

The Rockies are now 24-32 on the year.

The two teams will wrap up their series on Thursday afternoon.
