MLB Insider Gives Update On Xander Bogaerts Sweepstakes
Paul Rutherford-USA TODAY Sports

Xander Bogaerts could potentially be on his way back to the Boston Red Sox soon.

The Red Sox have made it very clear that retaining Bogaerts is their top priority this offseason, despite other big bats being available.

With Trea Turner off the board, Bogaerts, Carlos Correa, and Dansby Swanson remain on the free agent market.

But according to MLB insider Hector Gomez, that could change soon.

Gomez notes that talks have actually intensified between Bogaerts and the Red Sox, and that the Red Sox have “increased their offer” for the star shortstop.

The Red Sox have already signed veteran closer Kenley Jansen today.

Sox May Be Close To Signing Bogaerts

If the Red Sox can secure the bag with Bogaerts, then fans all over the City of Boston will rejoice.

Red Sox fans are hoping and praying that Bogaerts stays with the team.

The 30-year-old hit for a .307 average during the regular season and crushed 15 home runs while knocking in 73 runs.

In addition to that, the veteran slugger posted an OPS of .833, stole eight bases, racked up 53 extra-base hits, and tallied 254 total bases in 2022.

It was not enough to save the Red Sox from a 78-84 finish, but Bogaerts remained productive before ultimately opting out of the remaining three years of his contract with the team.

The slugger made his debut in 2013 and helped guide the Red Sox to a World Series title, completing their epic worst-to-first turnaround after they had finished in last place the previous year.

Bogaerts was one of the key pieces in the Sox’s 2018 World Series run as well.
