MLB insider reveals intriguing Cardinals rumor

Late on Wednesday, Jim Bowden of The Athletic posted a column outlining what he was hearing in terms of what the next offseason move for each MLB team would be.

When he got to the defending NL Central champion St. Louis Cardinals, he had an interesting bit of information that might just give Cardinals fans who are tired of no activity some hope as spring training nears.

Bowden revealed that the Cardinals may in fact be trying to make a trade for a certain player.

The identity of that player is unknown, as the Cardinals fear that if specifics become public, it will hurt their chances to make a deal.

So, who could it be?

It’s been well documented that the Cardinals are in need of another starting pitcher with injury concerns surrounding Jack Flaherty and Steven Matz and four of their current five in the final year of their contracts.

In that case, the Cards could be looking at Miami Marlins right-hander Pablo Lopez, a pitcher they have had interest in in the past.

But it’s also worth mentioning that St. Louis has other needs as well, particularly a left-handed bat to assume the role that Corey Dickerson filled last season with the team.

There are a few options that come to mind, such as former Cardinal Brad Miller, currently with the Texas Rangers, or Tommy La Stella, who was recently designated for assignment by the San Francisco Giants.

More than likely, if the Cardinals are discussing a trade and don’t want to reveal specifics, a bigger name than Miller or La Stella is their target.
