This Braves stat is very concerning

The Braves are one of the most potent offenses in baseball. Regardless of where you look, Atlanta sits atop the league in most metrics.

Below are league rankings:

• 5th in Runs (218)
• 3rd in Home Runs (69)
• 2nd in OPS (.804)
• 2nd in Slugging (.465)
• 2nd in OBP (.339)
• 2nd in wRC+ (116)
• 2nd in wOBA (.349)

There are about a dozen other advanced statistics that show how great the Braves’ offense is, but there are a couple of areas of concern.

Atlanta will never be a team that bats for average, though their .258 team average ranks 10th in all of baseball; however, it’s the club’s average with runners in scoring position that is notable.

The Braves’ .229 batting average with RISP ranks 26th in the MLB.

Now, this isn’t me saying the world is ending because the Braves still boast arguably the best offense in baseball. The Rays are in a class of their own right now, but regression is bound to hit at some point.

Atlanta hits bombs, and it’s undoubtedly my favorite way to score runs because it’s the most entertaining, and it always plays in October. However, there are instances where a base hit is all the Braves need to get a run across the plate, and they are unable.

I imagine as the year goes on, the Braves will rise up the ranks in this particular metric, but it is something worth monitoring as the season progresses.
