The Knicks continue to search for ways to add a superstar to their roster, as team president Leon Rose explains.

“We’re gonna be aggressive as far as knowing what’s going on and as far as being on top of things and looking at opportunities,’’ Rose said (via Marc Berman of The New York Post).

“But at the same time, we’re going to be prudent and disciplined in decisions that we make that are going to take into account positives and negatives, short term, long term, all those factors in a decision-making process.’’

League executives aren’t able to comment on specific players on rival teams, though it’s not a reach to believe that a few of those potential opportunities that the Knicks are keeping an eye on include Ben Simmons‘, Zion Williamson‘s, and Karl-Anthony Towns‘ among others.

Still, the Knicks aren’t going to go all-in on acquiring a star (as they have in the past). New York’s plan going forward is to gradually build towards contender status rather than taking shortcuts and that philosophy was present during the offseason moves.

“We wanted to bring enough of those guys back from last year that started to set a bar for us to get better,” general manager Scott Perry said. “And as you look around the league, teams that improve tend to have a lot of the same guys back. You’ve got to be able to have enough time to develop a core group of guys, so that was reflective of what we did this summer.”

During the offseason, the team re-signed Julius Randle to a long-term contract extension while also bringing back Derrick Rose, Nerlens Noel, Alec Burks, and Taj Gibson.
