Report: Bills sign veteran quarterback and wide receiver
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Ben DiNucci. Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

With the 2024 NFL preseason in full swing, the Buffalo Bills are making some final moves before the start of the regular season.

The team has experienced several key injuries this preseason, including to quarterback Shane Buechele and wide receiver Chase Claypool. Buffalo has made the a few moves to fill the voids in their depth to these positions.

The Bills have signed quarterback Ben DiNucci to a one-year deal to serve as the backup to starter Josh Allen. DiNucci spent last season on the Denver Broncos practice squad and in the XFL. He played for the Seattle Sea Dragons in 2022 and started in 10 games, posting a 7-3 record. He also led the XFL in passing yards that season with 2,671.

DiNucci was originally drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 2020, playing in three games with one start. He completed 23-of-43 passing attempts for 219 yards. While he has not been the most productive backup in the NFL, the Bills are hoping he will serve as a good backup option if Allen were to go down with an injury this season.

Buffalo also made the addition of veteran wide receiver Damiere Byrd, who spent the 2022-2023 seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. He posted 268 receiving yards on 13 catches and two touchdowns during his time with the Falcons. Byrd has also spent spent time with the Carolina Panthers before playing for several other teams like the Arizona Cardinals, New England Patriots and Chicago Bears.

In his career, the veteran receiver has 130 receptions for 1,689 yards and seven touchdowns. While Byrd will likely not play a key role in the Bills’ offense, his experience in the league can serve some of the younger guys on the roster well.
