Going Out
Coming In
There are some conditions on some of the draft picks that could change the pick themselves in the future. However, the haul on the three big names heading to other teams creates a plethora of options for general manager Craig Conroy. Whether that’s using second-round picks, turning them into a first in the upcoming draft, or using those picks to create a deep prospect pool for the future.
ANOTHER ONE!
We've acquired Ryan Strome from Anaheim in exchange for a 2027 seventh-round pick.

During his press conference after the deadline, general manager Craig Conroy finally said the taboo word. The Flames are in a rebuild. With the cap space, and draft capital that the Flames have built up, the Flames have plenty of options for the future. The ability to use those draft picks to move up in the draft is there. As well as, using those picks to get young players that will help the future of the franchise.
The prospects that the Flames have will be getting the opportunity. The Flames have 47 players signed to contracts, either in the NHL or in the minors. This leaves the door open to sign Abram Wiebe, Cole Reschny, and Ethan Wyttenbach when their seasons end in the NCAA. If that’s the direction that the Flames want to go in that is.
It’s been clear for a while that the intention of the Flames was to get younger and build towards being competitive when Scotia Place opens for the 2027-28 season. With the loss of Nazem Kadri, MacKenzie Weegar, and Rasmus Andersson, the goal now for the Flames is to get a high pick in this years draft, and continue to develop the prospects in the system. The Flames believe in the direction they are going under Craig Conroy. The new era has begun in Calgary, and the fanbase is excited about this path.
