Oilers’ Ekholm clears protocol after hitting head on ice: ‘I think I got an angel watching over me’

It was a scary sight last Thursday when Edmonton Oilers defenceman Mattias Ekholm was taken hard to the ice. Finding himself on the receiving end of a hit from Carolina Hurricanes winger William Carrier, the first part of Ekholm’s body to hit the ice early in that third period was his head.
