The Italian national team advanced on through to the semifinals of the Euro 2020 tournament following its quarter-final win against Belgium.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti starred in the match as he recorded an assist and created multiple goal-scoring chances for teammates.

It was a grand performance from Verratti that caught the attention of many in the world football, including long-time Italian manager Claudio Ranieri.

In speaking to the Italian-based outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport (via TuttoMercatoWeb), Ranieri highlighted several players that had a key role in the match, including Verratti.

“Our first half was spectacular,” Ranieri said. “I saw the absolute best football of this European Championship. There were moments of total brilliance, especially when we played with one touch, literally sending Belgium off the dribble. Jorginho was gigantic. [Nicolo] Barella was his perfect wingman. [Marco] Verratti was also good, quicker and more essential.”

Verratti has done well to bounce back for Italy ever since making his return from a notable knee injury, which kept him out of action for over a month.

Now, Italy will now be taking on Spain in the upcoming Euro 2020 semifinal round, where will Verratti aim to help the Azzurri make a long-awaited return to the final of this competition.
