The busy transfer window for Chelsea continues as they today announced the departures of two young talents. Both are confirmed to be leaving on loan as Mamadou Sarr returned to Strasbourg for a year, while Leo Castledine is headed to Huddersfield Town on a season-long loan.
The attacker came through Cobham and impressed at youth levels. He scored a number of goals and provided assists at a regular rate in developmental tournaments like the U18 Premier League, Premier League 2, and UEFA Youth League. With 38 goals and 16 assists to his name it is no surprise he’s sprouting his wings.
Described as a “dynamic attacking midfielder” he just spent a year on loan in League 2 with Shrewsbury Town where he made 26 appearances. He didn’t have the best time there, only netting twice and now faces a bit of a jump up to League 1 with Huddersfield.
Signed from Strasbourg, the defender has been immediately sent back to the BlueCo-owned side. He failed to break into the rotation during the Club World Cup and likely proved to be too raw in training to be in consideration for a squad role. With a lot of competition at the back it is an ideal situation for him to continue developing.
Sarr is an interesting prospect who has represented France at youth level and featured a lot for a strong Strasbourg side last term. The teenager has played on both sides of the centre-back partnership. His strength is in his passing, ranking as one of the better central defenders in stats like passes attempted and pass completion rates.
His physical profile and passing ability makes him one to watch, he’s tall enough and fast enough to be a problem on the defensive end while his passing ability makes him perfect for modern systems like Enzo Maresca’s or Liam Rosenior’s.
