According to Fabrizio Romano and Keith Downie, Chelsea striker Marc Guiu is in talks with Premier League new boys Sunderland over a possible loan move. However, the Black Cats could face competition with at least two other clubs interested in his signature.
Should a deal be agreed, it would be a season-long loan with no option to buy, but Sunderland would cover all of the player’s wages.
According to reports, Sunderland are not the only club targeting the 19-year-old former Barcelona youth star. However, it appears that the Black Cats are the ones who have made their feelings clear and want the striker at the Stadium of Light for the duration of next season.
Guiu signed for Chelsea last summer after they activated his release clause at Barcelona. He would feature 16 times for the Blues, scoring six times, with all of these goals being scored in the Europa Conference League, which Chelsea went on to win.
Capped at youth level for Spain, Guiu is highly rated and is expected to have a bright future. A loan to a club such as Sunderland who are known for developing young talent, could be an ideal move for him as well as the Black Cats.
Albert Capellas, Barcelona’s former assistant director of youth football, had this to say about Guiu following his move to Chelsea last summer. He said: “Marc Guiu is a finisher. He is a deep runner. He is a very good header. He is fast, powerful, a fantastic boy. Very competitive.
“Marc Guiu is not a player who has unbelievable skills one against one, who can dribble past players. He is another type of player but he is exceptional in his position, in the work that he has to do, in his mentality. He has the nose to score goals.”
