Enzo Maresca Delivers Crushing Update on Cole Palmer

In speaking to the press before his side’s clash with Burnley, Enzo Maresca had an update to give on one Cole Palmer. The standout attacker has been the Blues’ most effective player since joining from Manchester City but they have been without the Englishman for a significant period this season due to a groin issue. While there had been hopes he could be back after the November break, this has now been thrown into doubt.

In unfortunate news, the manager confirmed that the attacker was actually close to coming back from his groin issue. He went on to note that the player won’t be available for the match on Saturday due to a seperate problem suffered at home.

Due to a new toe issue, the England international is set to miss the next week with the manager indicating he doesn’t expect to have Palmer back for either the match with Barcelona or league leaders Arsenal.

A Silver Lining?

Despite the bad and ill-timed setback, there can be some comfort for Blues fans to be found. While this new issue with his foot has ruled the attacker out for some key games, it appears that the worst of his groin issue is behind him and he will be able to take part in the campaign relatively soon. This could sync up well with the busy festive period, where matches pile up in December.

Chelsea have fared relatively well without their star forward but will be eager to get him back. In his 101 appearances since making the move from Manchester, he has scored 45 times and assisted 29, a return that no other player can really guarantee. While the contributions are coming in drips and drabs, a guaranteed 20+ strike a season man could turn them into real contenders later in the term.
