Let's break down Juan Pierre 0.318 avg during Manny's 50-game suspension: AB Hits Avg Games 1-20 87 37 0.425 Games 21-30 127 31 0.244 So basically after his 20-game torrid start, he's hit 55 points below his career average. Here's a graph of his cumulative average during those 50 games, and since I'm not a big fan of arbitrary splits or cumulative averages, I've also included his trailing 10 game average*: (click image to enlarge) The first 9 games of the trailing average trendline include games previous to Manny's suspension.

Juan Pierre and the Price of Readiness

Does this qualify as irony? Juan Pierre's famed work ethic has just cost him a starting job. By demonstrating his ability to produce with little or no warning, Pierre has made himself into the ultimate bench player. Now that we've got that out of the way, time for the important stuff: When will Manny hit his first post-suspension home run? Participate in our new poll on the sidebar.

Javier Vazquez For Juan Pierre

Not.GM Ned Colletti is looking for pitching, and Vazquez would be absolutely perfect for L.A.'s rotation. He would give them a veteran, frontline innings-eater along the lines of what they had in Derek Lowe last year, and Joe Torre knows him well and would certainly endorse an acquisition of him. The Dodgers also have some payroll flexibility, and they have an extra outfielder...

Sit Down Juan Pierre, Manny's Back

All you folks who have been hanging on for dear life to Manny Ramirez, waiting patiently for his return to your fantasy roster while the rest of your outfield struggled? You can breathe easy once again. Those 50 games he was forced to sit out after testing positive for stupidity are finally over, as he'll start in the Los Angeles Dodgers outfield Friday against Chad Gaudin and...

Pierre deserves to be on final-man ballot

Forget about how well Juan Pierre played in place of Manny. There's other reasons he should be an All-Star, Ken Rosenthal explains.

Pierre has handled the job like a pro for Dodgers

All that time on the bench gave Juan Pierre time to reflect. Now that he's going back, he'll be able to handle it, Tracy Ringolsby says.

It's back to the bench for Dodgers' Juan Pierre

Outfielder filled in admirably for Manny Ramirez during his 50-game suspension. Orlando Hudson said Juan Pierre should be an All-Star. So did Matt Kemp .

Juan Pierre “The Invisible Man”

Now that Manny Ramirez is back in the Dodgers’ lineup, Juan Pierre has once again become The Invisible Man. I didn’t say it.  The legendary Vin Scully said it last night after Ramirez went 0 for 3 at Petco Park and was then replaced by Pierre for defensive purposes. “[David] Eckstein goes out and calls it. That [...]

Juan Pierre returns to the bench for the Los Angeles Dodgers

With Manny Ramirez coming back from his suspension Juan Pierre will likely return to the bench. Pierre has played in 72 games this season for the Dodgers and he is 79 for 246 (.321 avg, .788 OPS) with 37 runs scored, 24 RBIs and 22 stolen bases. He will return to his role [...]

NL West: Dodgers welcome back Manny with road trip

There's some sort of buzz going on right now in Los Angeles. Is Eric Karros making a return to the Dodgers? Did Juan Pierre embarrass himself by rapping in public again?

Since You've Been Gone

Using a Kelly Clarkson song as my post title? I think I have hit a new low.Anyway, the 21-8 record that the Dodgers amassed before Manny's suspension has predictably since regressed to 29-21 over the last 50 games. However, it's more than a bit unfair to say the Dodgers have been a 94 win team without Manny, but were a 117 win team with him. After all, the Dodgers were...
