WSBGMs would like to take this opportunity to thank the Philadelphia Phillies for one helluva ride this season. Third straight NL East title and back-to-back World Series appearances...that's the stuff I used to dream of when I was a kid. They may not have won the coveted championship this year, but they're still a great team worthy of adoration. We have the entire season to hash out a game plan for free agents, trades, and other roster moves. Today we will look back on the playoffs as a whole...Bats:*Totals- .247/.345/.472, 24 2B, 5 3B, 25 hr, 82 r, 11 sb.*Although Ryan Howard's bat was seemingly nonexistent during the WS, he did collect 17 total rbi during the playoffs. *Chase Utley proved why he's Philadelphia favorite son, belting 5 WS homeruns and scoring 15 runs to lead the team in the '09 playoffs.*Jayson Werth flexed his muscle, popping 7 homeruns, also scored 13 and drove in 13.*Chooch Ruiz batted .341 with a 1.082 OPS. Secret weapon.*Jimmy Rollins ended...

Photo: That Sweet Swing

Mr. November, originally uploaded by philliefan99As philliesfan99 notes, "With this swing, Chase Utley tied Reggie Jackson's record of five home runs in a World Series."I think it's time for a new record holder.

Boomer: Utley Needs Some Chin Music

From David Wells:Chase Utley needs to kiss the Yankee Stadium dirt tonight.Enough is enough, already. I would never advocate throwing at somebody’s head, but there comes a time when you’ve got to make an insanely hot hitter like Utley squirm. That is what I would have done Monday night if I were A.J. Burnett. What do you think Bob Gibson and Don Drysdale would have done? They would...

One Rubber Tree Plant Down, Two to Go

Chase Utley continues his record-breaking post season, and the Phils refuse to die. An 8-6 victory over the Yanks in a way-too-close-for-comfort Game 5 sets the stage rather nicely for the Phils in Game 6. The Phillies had the best road record in the majors this year, so closing out on the road doesn’t really [...]

Chase Utley’s Wife Has a Few Fans

Chase Utley’s Wife: The possible MVP of the World Series has a very telegenic wife, and so Access Hollywood visited her in Philly. She says about dating Utley … “It was not love at first sight … he was a mess. A big mess.” Women love to say that about men they eventually marry. Why [...]

The Bronx is not burning

One wonders why the Yankees, who've watched as Alex Rodriguez has been hit three times, haven’t sent a message to locked-in slugger Chase Utley, who tied Reggie Jackson’s mark yesterday with five homers in the Fall Classic. Multiple sources are debunking the Cole Hamels and Brett Myers spat, so let’s move back to baseball. After sharing our respective disdain for Nick Swisher...

A household name

If the national baseball audience wasn't fully aware of the kind of hitter Chase Utley is, they know now. The Philadelphia Phillies' talented second baseman has morphed into a combination of Babe Ruth and Reggie Jackson in the World Series, socking five home runs in the first five games.

Howard: Utley, a quiet hero, sure looks like another Jeter

Howard: No matter how perfectly their statistics align, Chase Utley isn’t the next Reggie Jackson. He’s becoming the new Derek Jeter, right before our eyes.

Utley is riding confidence wave

NEW YORK - Chase Utley, the slugger of few words, was also a man of little contact against Andy Pettitte.

World Series Gameday: Phillies At Yankees, Game 6

Philadelphia Phillies (2-3) at New York Yankees (3-2) Pedro Martinez, RHP (0-1) vs. Andy Pettitte, LHP (1-0) Time: 7:57 p.m at Yankees Stadium Weather: Mostly Cloudy, 51 degrees TV: FOX Twitter: Phillies Nation Once again, it’s do or die.  Cliff Lee and Chase Utley pushed this series to Game 6.  Now, Pedro Martinez is handed the ball needing to further extend [...]

Olney On What's Facing The Yankees And Phillies

We haven't had a World Series rematch since the Yankees and Dodgers squared off in 1977 and then again in 1978, but that doesn't stop ESPN's Buster Olney from looking at what stands in the way of another Yanks-Phils Fall Classic in 2010. Let's round up some hot stove talk... Olney guesses that the Yankees won't tender Chien-Ming Wang a contract...
