The Daily News is reporting that it appears the Mets are close to releasing Tim Redding. The right handed journeyman has been a disappointment to the organization during a miserable season. He had off-season toe surgery, that should have heeled by spring training, but by the start of camp he arrived over weight and favoring the injured toe. He started the season on the DL due to straining his shoulder, while compensating for the toe.Since being activated he has pitched as a starter and reliever, unfortunately; more of his work has been ineffective then effective.Redding pitched very well last year for a very bad Nationals team, the Mets thought they were getting a 30 y/o righty with good numbers against the NL east who had finally figured it all at, what they probably got was a guy who had a career year, which wasn't even that good a year by major league standards. I'll admit, at the cost and looking at last year's numbers I thought Redding was a solid pick-up and I was wrong. The Me...

Mets Ready To Release Redding?
Adam Rubin of The NY Daily News spoke to a source who indicated that the Mets were ready to release righthander Tim Redding and eat what's left on the one year, $2.25MM deal he signed this winter. Redding has been dreadful for the Amazin's, allowing 86 baserunners and pitching to a 7.22 ERA in 52.1 IP this year.
Red Sox designate Lugo, could eat $13 million
BOSTON (AP) -- The Boston Red Sox have designated shortstop Julio Lugo for assignment.
Julio Lugo's Guide to Life
The Red Sox have released Julio Lugo, making him the second ex-Dodger to be let go this week after Cleveland released Matt Herges. The Rockies snapped up Herges and Lugo looks certain to be picked up by another team.
But it's Lugo's assessment of his failed relationship with Red Sox that caught my eye. From the Boston Herald:
"When you see a good looking girl, you get married...
Ding **** Lugo’s Gone
The nightmare is over Boston Red Sox fans. The nightmare is finalllllllllllllly over.
In what all of Red Sox Nation has been campaigning for all season long, the Red Sox have finally rid themselves of Julio Lugo as they designated him for assignment this afternoon.
By designating him for assignment, they now have 10 days to trade [...]
Rosenthal: Red Sox Trying To Trade Lugo
In something we’ve known about up here in Red Sox Nation for some time now, Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com is reporting that the Boston Red Sox are “desperately” trying to trade Julio Lugo.
The Red Sox, facing a roster bind as they prepare for the returns of shortstop Jed Lowrie and third baseman Mike Lowell, are [...]
7/17: Out with the old, in with the new
The second half starts with a bang and without Julio Lugo to kick around. Clay Buchholz gets the nod tonight in a cameo appearance with the big club. With Mike Lowell back, and Lowrie on the way tomorrow, the Red Sox will get a good look at what their potential defficiencies are heading into the deadline. In honor of the departed:
Thank God Almighty! Julio Lugo To Be DFA'd
According to multiple reports, Julio Lugo will be either traded or designated for assignment before Friday's game.
It will likely be the latter because nobody wants Lugo.
I'd prefer the Red Sox to have traded Lugo so that Boston could get something in return (probably nothing more than a Pepsi and a slice of pizza...from the Nationals) instead of just removing him from...
Odds & Ends: Johnson, Redding, Lopez, Giants
Hope everyone's Sunday is going well! Here's some links for the afternoon...
Israel Gutierrez of the Miami Herald feels that the face of the Marlins' future is ace Josh Johnson. Gutierrez feels that the most critical move the Marlins need to make it locking up Johnson to a long-term deal. To quote Gutierrez: "If Hanley Ramirez was worth paying for, then Johnson is at least...
Pedro in Philly; Lugo Going?
Pedro Martinez signed yesterday with the Philadelphia Phillies, a one-year deal worth about $1 million. My initial reaction was: sadness. I wish Pedro Martinez would have retired instead. He clearly is a shadow of what he once was. I don't care if he was effective in the WBC in March. He hasn't pitched in the majors this year, and I suspect he was holding out for more money...
