Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant could have a family violence charge against him dropped if he complies with an agreement reached with the Dallas County district attorney's Office. The deal includes Bryant undergoing anger management counseling for a year. His attorney, Royce West, said Bryant has already been seeing a counselor for anger management. The charge stems from an incident last July in which Bryant allegedly hit his mother, Angela Bryant, in the face with a baseball cap. A police affidavit also said Bryant grabbed his mother by her shirt. Although Angela Bryant is heard on her 911 call saying "he tried to kill me" she later signed an affidavit requesting that no charges be filed against her son. "The family always felt they could resolve this matter," West said. Prosecutors have not dropped the misdemeanor assault charges and instead have entered into the agreement with Bryant, which does not require him to enter a plea. "Dez and his family want to get this matter behind them and understand the serious nature of family violence accusations," West said in a statement. "As a result of this incident, they want to make sure that they develop the resources so if a family dispute arises in the future they can resolve through effective communication without raising voices." Since the incident, the Cowboys and Bryant have reportedly set limitations on his non-football activities, including instituting a curfew and providing a security detail. The NFL could also weigh in on Bryant's involvement in the alleged assault once the legal aspects have been resolved. Follow Keith Whitmire on Twitter: @Keith_Whitmire
