Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly told reporters -- including Austin Laymance of MLB.com -- that the team will be without outfielder Andre Ethier for at least the next "couple days" as he continues to recover from an injury to his left ankle. "It will be at least a couple days before we use him," Mattingly said. "We'll see where he goes. He's pretty sore today. We're going to be cautious with him." Ethier was forced to exit Friday's contest after irritating his sprained left ankle. He initially suffered the injury two weeks ago during a series against the Colorado Rockies. He hasn't played since, and it appears he could be sidelined for at least the next few days as a result of the ailment. Mattingly described Ethier's injury as "kind of like shin splints on the outside of the bone." Instead of experiencing soreness in the front of his ankle, Ethier is dealing with the pain "on the outside of that left ankle," according to his skipper. The ailment specifically plagues Ethier when he attempts to make a turn or cut. An X-ray has ruled out structural damage, and the Dodgers are confident that Ethier will be able to return in time for the postseason. Considering Los Angeles' place in the standings, currently sporting a 10.5-game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West, it's not surprising to see the team taking a cautious approach with Ethier. Did Matt Kemp debut a new batting setup last night?

Matt Kemp was activated off the disabled list yesterday, and he ended up striking out with the game on the line in his first plate appearance. This led to a bunch of enraged idiots blaming Kemp for everything, but for us back in the realm of things that actually matter to reasonable people, there was a noticeable change in his stance. Did Kemp purposely change his batting stance...

That ankle kept him out of Saturday night's lineup, with Dan Arritt of ESPNLosAngeles.com reporting that Ethier had 'increased soreness' in his left ankle on Saturday...

My 2013 Los Angeles Dodgers all-prospect team

This is the second year I’ve done my All-Prospect team, and there are some familiar names on this team. There are also some surprises, some 2013 draftees and even a guy who isn’t a Dodger prospect anymore. To be eligible for this list, a player must be prospect-eligible for the 2014 season. Otherwise, guys like Yasiel Puig, Paco Rodriguez and Chris Withrow would...

Kemp returns from DL, Puig back in lineup

The good news for the Dodgers is that center fielder Matt Kemp, out for almost two months with ankle and hamstring issues, was activated from the disabled list Monday afternoon. The bad news: Kemp wasn't in the starting lineup for the Dodgers' game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. Given the state of their roster, the return of Kemp has to be viewed as a...

The Dodgers will give ace left-hander Clayton Kershaw three extra days of rest and start rookie Stephen Fife on Wednesday night against the D-backs. Kershaw will instead start Saturday in San Diego. Goldschmidt spoils Kemp's LA return

For the first time since July, the Dodgers took the field Monday night with Matt Kemp on the active roster. But their offense stayed stuck in its September swoon, and the Diamondbakcs needed just one swing off of Hyun-Jin Ryu to make them pay.
