LOS ANGELES The Dodgers say it's precautionary, but any trip to the local emergency room has to be viewed with a bit of concern.
That's where left fielder Carl Crawford was headed Saturday afternoon after he came to the ballpark with a fever and high temperature. Manager Don Mattingly said Crawford didn't feel well Friday night but played anyway after feeling better following batting practice.
Crawford is taking antibiotics, and Mattingly was prepared to play him Saturday, but the outfielder still didn't feel well.
"To me, he didn't look as good today," Mattingly said before the Dodgers faced the Cincinnati Reds at Dodger Stadium. "I was going to play him, but he didn't look great today when I saw him. I was going to shoot for tomorrow and give him today (off), so I think we'll be OK with him.
"I think it's fairly precautionary, him going to the emergency room.
Crawford has been among the team's hottest hitters since the All-Star break, with a seven-game hitting streak. He's batting .424 (14 for 33) during that stretch with three doubles and three RBIs. He was 3 for 4 Friday night in a 2-1 win over the Reds.
BEST OF MAXIM
If there's one position the Dodgers have produced and had a surplus of in the minors in recent years, it's outfielders. That holds true at the Major League level, too. So, I'm sure you're not surprised to see the have yet another outfield prospect on the farm who could be more than just a fourth outfielder down the road.

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Yasiel Puig hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th to score the only run of the game in a 1-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
Puig completed his home run trot by sliding into home plate, and some former players didn't like it.
Puig slid into home after a walk off homer. A good talent. But...
Los Angeles Dodgers' outfielder Carl Crawford, missed his second straight game against the Cincinnati Reds due to feeling ill.
As reported by Austin Laymance of MLB.com,
"Crawford was sent to the emergency room Saturday as a precaution. He was
sick on Friday, though he started against the Reds and had three hits.
But he wasn't feeling better Sunday."...
LOS ANGELES In a game where the Dodgers played for 10 and scoreless innings and set a new franchise record for strikeouts, there's only one player that could possibly come through with the game-winning theatrics: Yasiel Puig.
Sunday afternoon at Dodger Stadium, with one out and the game tied up 0-0 in the bottom of the 11th, Puig came up to bat against the Reds' Curtis...
Yasiel Puig hits a walk-off home run against my favorite team to give the Dodgers a 1-0 win in extra innings, and he slides into home plate feet first to the arms of his awaiting teammates. I should hate this guy with every inch of my soul. But I don’t.
Puig is quickly becoming one of my favorite non-Reds players in baseball. He’s a flashy Cuban with a killer instinct that is...
The Los Angeles Dodgers have been on fire since an awful start to the season and rookie outfielder Yasiel Puig is a big reason why. Though his numbers have come down to Earth a bit after a blistering start, Puig proved that he’s destined to be a star once again on Sunday.
The Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds were tied 0-0 with two outs in the bottom of the 11th when Puig stepped to...
Yasiel Puig homered with two outs in the 11th inning to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 1-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday.
Cincinnati pitchers set a franchise record with 20 strikeouts. Puig, Adrian Gonzalez, Hanley Ramirez and Tim Federowicz each fanned three times as the Dodgers established their highest single-game total for strikeouts since the franchise moved from...

Zack Greinke was a former teammate of Ryan Braun during his time in Milwaukee. Now a pitcher on the Los Angeles Dodgers there was no shortage of slams directed at the Brewers outfielder who has been suspended for the remainder of the 2013 season.
Greinke called Braun a liar and a user in an interview with the Los Angeles Times:
“The main thing is, yeah, he lied to us,” Greinke...
