Jeff Driskel will remain Florida's quarterback in 2013, but he has signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox. Driskel, a two-sport standout at Oviedo's Hagarty High, was surprisingly drafted in the 29th round by the Red Sox in June. Got drafted by the Red Sox today. Did not see that coming. Jeff Driskel (@jeffdriskel) June 8, 2013 And many Gators fans didn't see this coming either -- Driskel has signed with the Red Sox. A reporter for WEEI in Boston posted on Twitter late Wednesday that Driskel had signed. Driskel's mom told the Orlando Sentinel that the signing was not accurate, but then the deal was later confirmed by Jerry Driskel, Jeff's father, to multiple media outlets. Driskel also confirmed the signing Thursday via his Twitter account and noted he will remain at Florida. Yes I signed with the Red Sox. Nothing changes. I am still a full time student athlete at UF, fully committed to playing football. GoGators Jeff Driskel (@jeffdriskel) July 4, 2013 Driskel, an outfielder in high school, remains eligible to play college football and is expected to be under center this fall. How the Red Sox contract is structured and how he will balance the two sports is not known. As a sophomore, Driskel threw for 1,646 yards and 12 touchdowns, completing 63.7 percent of his passes in 2012 for the Gators. He is Florida's unquestioned starter after backup Jacoby Brissett transferred to N.C. State.
