Originally written December 12, 2012 on NBA Injury News:
Kyrie Irving had missed the Cleveland Cavaliers' last 11 games with a fractured finger.  In that time, the Cavaliers often looked hopeless.  They lost nine of those 11 games.  However, irving was back last night as the Cavs took on the Los Angeles Lakers.  And he made an instant difference. In his first game back, Irving played the second-most minutes (38) of anyone on the Cavaliers' roster.  Only Alonzo Gee played more (40).  Irving had 28 points, 11 assists, six rebounds, and he even picked up a steal.  He led the Cavaliers to a 100-94 win over the sinking Lakers. Irving's performance was a quick reminder of just how explosive the young star can be.  He is one of, if not the, most exciting players on the Cavaliers' roster.  Unfortunately, Cleveland doesn't have much around him to make themselves a competitor.  Prior to the injury, the Cavs were still not very good even with Irving on the court.  They were 2-8 when Irving went down with the fractured finger.Irving was drafted by the Cavaliers first overall in the 2011 draft.  He was a standout for Duke Blue Devils in college, and he was an immediate sensation in the NBA.  During the 2011-12 season, Irving averaged 18.5 points per game and 5.4 assists per game.  So far this season, he is averaging 23.4 points per game and 6.1 assists per game. The Cavaliers are now just 5-17 on the season.  They are not good, but having Irving back helps.  On the other hand, the Lakers should be better.  Yet with this loss, Los Angeles drops to 9-13.
