Dillon Gee had his third straight stellar start, Lucas Duda hit one of three Mets homers and New York scored the most runs allowed by Shelby Miller in his young career for a 5-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night. David Wright and Marlon Byrd also connected for the Mets, who snapped a three-game skid and improved to 2-6 in June. Duda drove in two runs, including a first-inning single that scored Daniel Murphy from first base. With prized pitching prospect Zack Wheeler nearing his promotion to the big leagues, Gee (5-6) has done everything possible to protect his spot in the rotation. The right-hander has yielded only three earned runs over 21 innings in his past three starts - all wins.

Dillon Gee Has Returned to Form

Dillon Gee was on the brink of a demotion when he faced the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on May 30th. The right-hander had made 10 starts until that point in the season with results that were indicative that he would be the man to face demotion when Zack Wheeler was ready to join the big league club. Boasting a 6.34 ERA, he had allowed eight home runs and opponents were teeing...

Gee Brilliant, Mets Bats Power 5-1 Win Over The Cards

Dillon Gee was dominant for the Mets as they beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 5-1 tonight at Citi Field to even the series at one game apiece. It was the third consecutive solid outing for Gee who is 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA in that span. The righthander held one of the most potent offenses in the game to just one earned run tonight in 6.2 innings pitched, scattering just...

You Mad, Bro? #BlameBeltran Edition

From SB Nation’s “Viva El Birdos” Blog: “beltran “ “For some unknown reason I always pictured Gee as an african-american fellow” “Dillon Gee? Not sure Dillon Gee qualifies for the Reggie Willits all-star team.” “Mets broadcast drooling over Shelby’s numbers” “mets broadcast seems to wish the 2013 cardinals would just put on mets pinstripes and move...

Will Mets really blow chance to move Lucas Duda to 1B?

The following story is respectfully offered for your consideration. It concerns two people—Ike Davis and Lucas Duda —but they are from another galaxy and another time. They live quite simply in the Twilight Zone. Okay so they’re not from another galaxy and another time. But after hearing Sandy Alderson’s comments on WFAN Monday, it’s quite clear that we are living in...

Wins Don’t Make the Harvey

Possibly a confusing title – allow me to elaborate.  Traditionalists would argue that wins are one of the most important stats around.  I would argue that that concept is pure folly (embracing my middle ages/old English vocabulary).  Going just off the Win stat, Harvey ranks at the same exact spot on a list across the MLB as Dillon Gee.  No knock against Gee, but there is no...

Lucas Duda or Ike Davis: Pick one

The title says it all. Pick one (considering their only justifiable position being first base) who you could plug in as your everyday first baseman and stick with it for the foreseeable future. It’s becoming readily apparent that both of these players can’t exist on the same team. Sooner or later the  Mets are going to have to make a solid, concrete decision on who their first...

Mets Have A Decision To Make Between Hefner and Gee

The Mets always seem to be very indecisive these days. They waited too long to fix the outfield and nobody currently on the team is even assured of a starting role in 2014. The Ike Davis saga lasted about a month and a half too long and the team paid the price with a dead out in the heart of their lineup for the first-third of the season. On Tuesday, Terry Collins announced that...

They Don't All Get Trophies, Terry

I can almost ... almost deal with Terry Collins putting Daniel Murphy at first base instead of Lucas Duda if it was for a decent reason. And after the Mets latest loss to the Cardinals on Tuesday, Collins hinted at sound reasoning: "Hey, look, Dan Murphy is a good first baseman. He's a very good first baseman. Lucas Duda hasn't had a ground ball all year long."...
