Ken Davidoff of the New York Post, writes that the New York Mets want to upgrade their bullpen, and that former Met closer Francisco Rodriguez is one of a few players the front office is targeting according to what a source with knowledge of the situation.
Davidoff points out a few good reasons why the Brewers may be in “sell mode” and why “K-Rod would be an excellent fit with the Mets — as their closer:”
Rodriguez, who is now 30, is earning $8 million dollars and probably has about half of that still coming to him for the rest of this season. He is 1-4 with no saves and has a 4.00 ERA, in 39 appearances games over 36 innings with the Brewers.
His velocity is actually higher since his time with the Mets, but he’s been less than what you would expects although he is maintaining a 2:1 K/BB rate and has been very effective against right-handed hitters who he’s held to a 188 batting average.

A Niese way to hit the midway point for the Mets
With a lopsided victory Tuesday night over the defending division champs, the New York Mets have officially hit the season’s midway point in style. The team now sits seven games over .500 (44-37) in sole possession of second place in the NL East, just 3 1/2 games behind the upstart Washington Nationals.

MMO Minor Persuasions: A Demotion For Familia and A Promotion For Mateo Might Be Imminent
I find it amazing how little attention RHP Luis Mateo gets when the topic of conversation is about the Mets’ best pitching prospects. If you didn’t know any better you would think that Zack Wheeler, Jeurys Familia, Matt Harvey and one or two others, were the only starting pitchers in the Mets minor league system.
So let me introduce you to rising star Luis Mateo, currently...

Due to a major turn around in fan voting, David Wright is not the NL starting third baseman.

Being stingy with walks fuels Jonathon Niese’s hot stretch
In the last five games the Mets are 4-1 while the Phillies are 0-5. Combined with New York being six games over .500 and Philadelphia nine games under, it’s understandable why the Mets come into their three game-set with the defending NL East champs almost a bit cocky. Josh Thole is shooting to go 5-1 in the six games remaining before the All-Star break, which would winning...

Coming into July 4, Philadelphia Phillies starter Cliff Lee had zero, zilch, nada, nothing, no wins in 13 starts on the 2012 season, but that changed in the seventh inning when the Phillies took a 3-2 lead on a pair of home runs by Chase Utley and Carlos Ruiz.
Both Mets starter Chris Young and Lee exchanged 1-2-3 innings in the first and second...
