My apologies for not blogging during the Oakland series.  Friday night’s game got over really late, and now that I’m a working woman, it was all I could do to stay awake for the whole game.  Composing my thoughts afterward was not happening.  And then I only saw snippets of Saturday’s and Sunday’s games. But here are some quick thoughts I have about the series … - It was fun to see Nelson Cruz hit a few homers.  Especially since they might be his last of the season (more on that later). - Derek Holland pitched a magnificent game on Sunday.  This is the pitcher we always hoped he would be.  It’s great to see him maturing and making our vision a reality. - Matt Garza should probably stay off Twitter and just pitch.  I’m all for freedom of speech and players having personality, but he tweeted some pretty horrible things late Saturday night.  I cringed a few times. - I’m sad Elvis Andrus’ hitting streak is over, but it was good while it lasted. - I wish Wash would get over the bunt, but

Rangers rumors: It will be 'difficult' to re-sign Nelson Cruz

Once yesterday's suspensions were handed down and it became clear the Texas Rangers would be without slugger Nelson Cruz for 50 games, teammates made it evident that they would welcome the outfielder back following his ban. However, the Texas Rangers organization may not be as open, as Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the team says it would be "quite difficult...

Rangers' postseason hopes lost with Cruz suspension?

In the aftermath of losing slugger Nelson Cruz to a 50-game suspension for his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal, some suggested it couldn't have happened at a worse time. Those folks apparently haven't taken a look at the upcoming schedule. The Rangers have been given the gift of a soft schedule in August that features 26 games against teams that currently have records...

Texas has to adapt to make playoffs without Cruz

The Texas Rangers are going to have to adapt if they're going to make the playoffs again. General manager Jon Daniels says the team expects to keep winning and make the playoffs for the straight fourth year even without Nelson Cruz. The All-Star right fielder leads the team with 27 home runs and 76 RBIs. Cruz will miss the rest of the regular season after his 50-game suspension...

Nelson Cruz's suspension a major hit for Rangers

Everyone knew this day was coming the day of reckoning for those ensnared by the Biogenesis investigation a stained collection of 13 accused PED cheats scattered throughout the major leagues. Rangers beat Angels after Cruz suspension

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- The Texas Rangers realize the rest of their regular season won't be the same after bidding farewell to Nelson Cruz. Their dominance of the Los Angeles Angels is still business as usual -- and this time, they didn't even need a late homer to do it. Adrian Beltre homered, Martin Perez pitched into the seventh inning, and the Rangers beat the Angels...

Perez turns in another strong start, Rangers deliver without Cruz in lineup

The loss of Nelson Cruz is going to bite the Texas Rangers’ offense at some point over the next few months but nothing much has changed for the five pitchers in the starting rotation. After all runs have been hard to come by much of the season. Their task is to give their team a chance something they have done as well as any team’s rotation of late and something Martin Perez...

A Nelson Cruz and Jhonny Peralta Suspension FAQ

For a while, Biogenesis didn’t exist. Then for a while, Biogenesis did exist, but we didn’t know anything about it. Then we started to know a lot about it, and in particular a lot about its distribution of performance-enhancing drugs, but it didn’t seem like baseball would be able to hand out much in the way of discipline. Then it seemed like baseball would be able to deliver...

Andrus, Rangers Dedicate Win to Cruz

In a meaningful moment after helping the Rangers win over the Angels Monday night, Elvis Andrus came out in support of suspended teammate Nelson Cruz. The Rangers are doing an admirable job of coming out in support of their sidelined superstar without trying to justify any of his actions. Cruz has taken responsibility for his behavior. He will not appeal the suspension.

Six games back of West-leading Oakland last week, the...

Baseball hands down suspensions

This has been dragged out for a while, but for players like Nelson Cruz and Jhonny Peralta, they’ve accepted a 50-game ban that starts immediately. A-Rod was banned for 211 games through the end of the 2014 season, but he’s fighting it so A-Rod is expected to play for the Yankees tonight. It was hard to imagine a player who could be hated more than Barry Bonds, but Alex Rodriguez...

Biogenesis suspensions could benefit White Sox

The Biogenesis report and subsequent investigation by Major League Baseball led to 13 players being suspended on August 5. For the Chicago White Sox and general manager Rick Hahn, this could mean an increased interest in some of the current players for a potential trade before the waiver trade deadline on August 31. Teams still looking to move players can place a player on waivers...
