Goldy the Gopher is University of Minnesota’s beloved mascot. To recognize him, the university has given Goldy his own likeness in bronze on campus. In celebration of homecoming week, Minnesota unveiled a six-foot bronze statue of Goldy today that will be displayed at the student union. Goldy is a big fan of the statue, and I think most people will have a positive reaction as well.  Goldy is now a permanent part of the Coffman Union plaza. #SkiUMadness #UMNHomecoming @UFacultyStaff @MPRAFriedrich pic.twitter.com/EMoGNoQOiz — Jon Ruzek (@JonHigherEd) September 23, 2013 It seems like a nice way to kick off homecoming week —  the Golden Gophers take on the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday. MINNEAPOLIS -- Gophers head coach Jerry Kill wouldn't commit one way or another when asked Tuesday who his starting quarterback will be Saturday against Iowa. Minnesota may have a few options at the position, but it all depends on the health of sophomore Philip Nelson, who missed last game with a hamstring injury.
