We're trying to talk to a blogger for the opponent at the beginning of each series to give you a little glimpse into who the Rangers are playing. Eric Stephen, who blogs on truebluela.com, answered a few questions for us. Here they are:
Give us your perspective on the job Joe Torre has done and what makes him such a good manager.
Torre is a pretty even-keeled guy. He never gets too high or too low. Sometimes I don't understand his bullpen usage patterns, but I can't argue with the rotation he has settled on -- Ronald Belisario and Ramon Troncoso setting up Jonathan Broxton. I don't get too caught up in batting order, as long as the right eight guys are in the lineup, and Torre has played his best eight players all year.
What has made leadoff hitter Juan Pierre so good this season?
Two things: He increased his walk rate, and started to drive more pitches. He has more extra base hits this season than he did last season, in less than half the plate appearances.
