Found July 28, 2013 on Phillies Nation:
(MLB) Jimmy Rollins made it clear to the Philadelphia media traveling with the team in Detroit: “I’m not going anywhere.” That was his response when asked if he were approached by the team with a trade to a contender. Rollins has 5 and 10 rights, meaning five seasons with the same team, 10 in the league. Therefore, he has the ability to block all trades. Therefore, J-Roll isn’t going anywhere. Rollins stated his quest to achieve Phillies records as his reason for staying put. “There are still a couple things I would like to be number one on the lists of in this organization,” Rollins said, “so until those things are done, I’m not going anywhere.” That statement could mean the end of the road for one, Chase Utley. It’s tough to imagine the Phillies keeping Utley around for several more seasons next to an aging Rollins and a rapidly-aging Ryan Howard. Assuming you resign Utley at $12 million per season, which is likely undervaluing him, that would account $48 million for three playe...

Cliff Lee is on the market, but price is said to be enormous

Cliff Lee's name is "definitely out" there in trade talks and the free-falling Phillies appear to at least be considering trading one of their aces. However the price tag on the veteran lefthander is exteremely high leading some to speculate that ulatimately the Phillies may still still hold onto him. "He's telling people it'll take you three or four...

Phillies' assistant GM says team weighing options

Philadelphia's assistant general manager says the Phillies haven't necessarily decided if they'll be buyers or sellers heading into next week's trade deadline. Scott Proefrock spoke to reporters before Saturday night's game at Detroit. The Phillies are hoping to snap a season-worst six-game losing streak, and they entered the night trailing first-place Atlanta...

Ruben Amaro Jr. prior to the Phillies’ signing of their big Cuban

(Ruben Amaro Jr., prior to the signing of Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez): What you lookin’ at? You all a bunch of ********* assholes – Keith Law and you list makers. You know why? You don’t have the guts to be what you wanna be? You need people like me. You need people like me so you can point your ********* fingers and say, “That’s the bad guy.” So… what that make you? Good...

Phillies' GM willing to listen on Cliff Lee

Philadelphia Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. on Friday opened the door to trading All-Star left-hander Cliff Lee. Amaro said he owed it to the organization to entertain offers for Lee. Papelbon: Phillies need changes from top, down

Jonathan Papelbon had only a couple minutes to talk Sunday morning at Comerica Park but he said plenty expressing the need for changes in the organization if things do not improve on the field. Papelbon signed a four-year $50 million contract in November 2011 but he has known mostly losing at this point in Philadelphia. The Phillies returned home after a 12-4 loss to the Tigers...

Phillies are buyers after all, reports say Phillies win bidding war for Cuban Miguel Alfredo ...

With the Phillies seeing a losing streak hit six games to sink the club five games under .500 and having them fall farther back in the NL East and wild card standings, the general consensus is the Phillies should start to recognize themselves as sellers with the trade deadline coming up in just a few more days. But as we have learned, the Phillies are indeed buyers it would seem...

Papelbon: “I definitely didn’t come here for this”

Source: Justin K. Aller/Getty Images North America The Philadelphia Phillies may be waiving the white flag on the 2013 season but that does not mean that management is ready to disband the team in any way. Cliff Lee is not for trade and the Phillies are working to re-sign 34-year-old Chase Utley to a new contract. With the Philies losing eight in a row following Sunday’s meltdown...

Phillies In Sellers Bin, Down One Bargaining Chip

Following weeks of uncertainty over which direction they would be heading this trading period, either become buyers or sellers, the Philadelphia Phillies have been forced into the seller bin due to their downward spiral and removing them from playoff contention. One longtime franchise star infielder, though, won’t be going anywhere. While most would [...]The post Phillies...

Second Sweep: Philadelphia Phillies Allow Eight in the Sixth En Rout to Eight Straight

Eight straight. That is how many games the Philadelphia Phillies have now dropped and there doesn’t seem to be an immediate band-aid to solve any of their issues. Now, just 1.5 games ahead of the New York Mets, the Phillies hold the longest losing streak in the current MLB [...]The post Second Sweep: Philadelphia Phillies Allow Eight in the Sixth En Rout to Eight Straight appeared...

The Chase Utley Shop Is Closed: Phillies Working On An Extension

I am undecided as to whether re-signing Chase Utley to an extension is a good thing; if Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard were not all signed long-term I might think differently. But it appears that the Phillies are not working on a trade for Chase Utley; in fact they are...

Papelbon likely going no where

After an eight game losing streak the Philadelphia Phillies have decided to sell and sell hard. One guy who has been talked about a lot is closer Jonathan Papelbon, especially with teams like the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox in need of closers. One of them, the Tigers, satisfied their need with a trade for Jose Veras so that takes one team out of the market. Unfortunately...

If Raul Valdes Is Starting, Ruben Amaro Needs To Be Departing

35 With The Potential To Be 36 Tonight in Detroit, the Phillies had to scratch Cliff Lee due to injury -- honestly, if they had any smarts at all, they'd forbid him to pitch until he's traded  -- and went with Plan Z, which is Raul Valdes. A guy who hasn't started for a year. A guy with 2 career starts. A guy who should, well, never start for a major league team. Or...

Phillies Demolished By Tigers, 10-0

As many could have predicted when the news that Cliff Lee wouldn't be starting tonight broke, the Phillies lost what was easily one of the least competitive game in MLB this season, falling 10-0 to the Detroit Tigers. Raul Valdes, starting in place of the injured Lee, was in trouble...
