February 14 Q: Geoff Bodine had a bit of an adventurous ride in the early going in the 1981 Daytona 500. What happened to him?
February 14 A: Bodine got his No. 23 Pontiac Grand Prix loose in Turns 3 and 4 and slid down to the apron. Once there, Bodine struggled for control through the muddy grass, sliding through a gap in the infield wall, up a small hill and into a spectator area. No one was injured, but Bodine did hit a station wagon. A clip of the incident can be seen here; Ken Squier and David Hobbs have the call for CBS.
February 15 Q: Bobby Allison won the 1982 Daytona 500 while driving for DiGard Racing. However, there was quite a bit of controversy involved with Allison’s No. 88 Gatorade Buick during the race. What happened to cause it?
