One persons junk is anothers treasure, the old yard sale mantra should apply to the Met off-season acquisitions. The Mets have stood on the sidelines for much of the the off-season watching players being signed by one team or another. Some players didn't fit the team's needs, others received irresponsible contracts and yet there were other players that there doesn't appear to be an explanation as to why the Mets didn't make a push to sign. The fact that it's January 6th and the Mets are the only team in the league who have not signed a single major league contract is mind boggling, it's almost as if ownership is challenging fans to continue to be fans of the team. But I digress, since the Mets aren't signing free agents then they should acquire players who are placed on waivers, since all it will cost is a roster spot. They recently surprised me by passing on a couple catchers who I thought would provide depth and possibly compete for a position. As rep...

Scott Hairston May Make the Evil Decision
Yankees, Mets vie for Hairston es.pn/V5RFtm #NYM #Mets
— Adam Rubin (@AdamRubinESPN) January 8, 2013
I am been trying to think about thinks from the player’s point of view, and I would not be surprised to see Scott Hairston make the “evil” decision and join the Yankees.
Honestly, with the way the Mets are currently built, who can blame him? Although the walls have been brought...
Heyman: Mets Still Have Plenty Of Dollars To Spend
According to a tweet from CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman, the Mets have quite a bit of dollars left to spend. Heyman says the team is still looking to add an outfielder, a starting pitcher and a bullpen arm.
Last week I answered a question about how much the Mets had to spend, and I speculated around $20-25 million.

I received a question from Elliot Lowenstein that...
Can Ike Davis Mash 40 Homers In 2013?
Ike Davis had an incredible second half for the Mets last season and even led the NL in home runs during that span. Plagued with some rust from an ankle injury that wiped out his 2011 season and a bout with Valley Fever, Davis had two very forgettable months to start the 2012 campaign - combining for a .169 batting average in April and May. He came dangerously close to being demoted...
Mets Willing To Pay Most Of Santana’s Salary To Move Him
According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Mets are hoping they could unload Johan Santana before the start of the season.
Cafardo says that the Mets are one of three teams willing to “pick up most of the freight” to get rid of Santana, Vernon Wells, and Alfonso Soriano.
The Mets would help pay the $31 million left on Santana’s deal. As teams start to round off...
Factoids about the 2012 Mets
Well, as the calendar year turns, let’s take a look at some interesting, or banal depending on your mileage on such tidbits, factoids about the 2012 New York Mets First up, a look at the Met All-Time Roster, and Met Leaders by games played at each position;
The Mets used 49 different players in 2012, which included 23 new Mets, bringing the All-Time Roster, after 51 seasons to...
Mets remain interested in Hairston, thank goodness for the NFL playoffs
For many of us, the start of the NFL Playoffs has provided a nice distraction to the lack of recent offseason activity the Metsecutives have undertaken. Once that’s over, then what? Back to baseball…… yikes! In the meantime, at least we can enjoy some Free NFL Playoff Picks and try to stay positive.
When football is over, it’s back to worrying about what kind of team...
Travis D’Arnaud, the outfield and other stories to keep you warm
Looking ahead 1.3 months into the future I see a number of exciting storylines to keep Met fans (even those who have lost heart with the 2013 season already) something to watch. I thought I would get this boulder rolling early so we could get some discussion started about where it might land (and whom it might squash).
The Future Face of the Franchise:
The team is going to be throwing...
Money For Nothing & The Patience For Free
#mets have quite a bit of $ left to spend. Looking at OF, pen, rotation.
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeymanCBS) January 7, 2013
Jon Heyman took to his twitter yesterday and allowed us Mets fans to dream that Fred woke up, and happened to find money in that Jacket he has been meaning to wear for the past few years but never got around to it.
Found money is the best kind of money really and...
Player Profile #174: Jon Niese | SP | NYM
Frankly, I didn’t think Jon Niese would ever become the pitcher that he was last season. I was convinced high OBAs would plague him for most of his career, and even if his high BABIP eventually...

Special Report: Mets Have Some Cash to Spend, Maybe on Players???
The Mets’ owners, who were financially hobbled by Bernard L. Madoff’s immense fraud scheme, now have about $160 million in new money to spend..
The cash infusion, comes thanks to their majority ownership of the SNY regional sports network. One benefit of owning a network like SNY is the ability to borrow money against it. SNY’s annual revenue is in the hundreds of millions...
MMO Fan Shots: I Hope This Means The Mets Are Back In The Steak Aisle
DrDooby says:
Omar Minaya wasn’t a great GM.
However, he also wasn’t a terrible GM.
He did what he was asked to do, i.e. build a quick fix winner, while swimming in cash and having two inexpensive young building blocks in Wright & Reyes.
Yes, he did at the cost of future payrolls – but he couldn’t foresee the collapse of Bernie Madoff’s scheme either I suppose...
If Healthy, Carl Pavano Wouldn’t Be A Bad Pickup
With spring training almost a month away, the Mets are running out of time to fill voids left in the outfield, bullpen and starting rotation.
Andy McCullough of the Newark Star-Ledger reported this morning that the Mets and Carl Pavano are in preliminary discussions on a potential deal, and that the interest is mutual.
A lot of fans are probably not thrilled that the Mets are looking...
Heyman: Mets have checked in on Upton and Kubel
The New York Mets appear set to begin the season with a starting outfield consisting of Mike Baxter, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, and Lucas Duda. I honestly think you’d be hard pressed to find a scout around the league that thinks any one of those guys (let alone all three) is currently a legitimate starting outfielder, so to say this is a point of weakness for the Mets is an understatement...
Mets and D’Backs Discussed Upton and Kubel
The Mets and Diamondbacks have had discussions about potential trades involving outfielders Justin Upton and Jason Kubel, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
Heyman adds that Arizona’s asking price was too rich for the Mets’ tastes on Upton, while Kubel wasn’t a perfect fit for the team.
I wonder what they wanted for Upton?
With Alderson you just never know because when...

He will be the part-time co-host of a weekday talk show that debuts in April. Starting this month, he will also periodically provide analysis to NBC Sports Radio shows and affiliated stations.
Valentine was fired in October after just one season in Boston...
