Kevin Youkilis just can't seem to shake his back problems. The New York Yankees were forced to place him back on the DL just two weeks after returning from a month on the DL with a lumbar strain. Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports that this latest problem is from a different source, likely a nerve issue, which is causing numbness in his big toe and calf. Youkilis suggested that he didn't expect to miss as much time as his previous stint. “We’re basically just going to get it all checked out, make sure it’s nothing serious,” Youkilis said. “It’s one of those things where, even the parts of my back that were hurting before don’t hurt that much. A little tightness, but nothing near what it did. This is more something hitting a nerve, so hopefully we get it resolved as soon as possible.”   The veteran third baseman will see back specialist Dr. Robert Watkins on Monday. As positive as Youkilis was about only missing a short amount of time, it's clear that neither he nor the Yankees really know what the root cause of the problem is. “That’s the most frustrating thing for me right now is not being able to get on the field, but also not knowing exactly what it is. Going forward, we’ll find more answers in the next week.” Yankees manager Joe Girardi also admitted he was concerned by the fact that back problems keep cropping up for Youkilis. The 34-year-old has seen a significant decline in performance in recent years: after three consecutive seasons (2008-2010) of an OPS over .950, his season OPS subsequently dropped to .833 and then .745. This season it is just .648 over 118 plate appearances. Youkilis' excellent plate discipline also seems to be a thing of the past; his 2012 walk rate of 10% is a significant drop from his career average of 12.2% and this season it stands at just 6.8%. Yankees bring Neal up, Adams sent down

The Yankees have called up outfielder Thomas Neal from Triple-A Scranton prior to tonight’s game with the Angels. Infielder David Adams has been sent down to make room on the roster. Adams started off on the right foot with the Yankees but has since cooled off, picking up just two hits in his last 25 at-bats. Neal, 25, put up a batting line of .339/.426/.446 with two homers and...

Yankees Tom Kahnle, Mark Montgomery Could Provide Bullpen Depth

The New York Yankees are in need of a shakeup at the major league level even if it is mainly on offense. The Yankees have an above average pitching staff but an anemic lineup, and with so many players headed to Free Agency, will need to make a lot of decisions as they approach the trade deadline. While players like Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte and Hiroki Kuroda represent no trade...

Kuroda, not Sabathia, anchoring pitching staff for Yankees

In Japan, where traditional ranking permeates even baseball, the ace of a team’s pitching staff typically wears the number 18. It is a custom confined to that country, although Hiroki Kuroda has certainly upheld its notion in baseball’s metropolis. Kuroda has played ace for the Yankees this season. But the team will need Sabathia to start carrying more of the load.   Indeed...

David Adams botched pop-up call highlights Yankees' blooper reel

The New York Yankees have scored 16 runs in the last seven games and manager Joe Girardi has to be disheartened every time he fills out a lineup card with names like Neal, Brignac and Romine filling out the bottom of the batting order. They haven't been helping themselves on the field either as second baseman David Adams spectacularly showed Friday night against the Los Angeles...

Yankees game 69 lineup: 6/16/13

Happy Father’s Day! The Yankees look to avoid yet another sweep this afternoon when they play the Angels. They will try and do so without Mark Teixeira, who was sent back to New York early to get his wrist examined. Teix re-aggrivated it yesterday and was removed from the game, obviously not good news for the team. Probably the best pitching matchup of the weekend, CC Sabathia...

Teixeira has no new tears in wrist

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira has no new tears in the tendon sheath around his inflamed right wrist. Teixeira got a cortisone shot Sunday. New York manager Joe Girardi says he will be re-evaluated next week. Teixeira left the Yankees' 6-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday in the fourth inning. The Yankees sent him back to New York for evaluation on his problematic...

Kyle Roller Hammering AA Pitching Trenton

Kyle Roller plays a position currently blocked by two different players for his Major League parent club, the New York Yankees. He is already 25-years-old and not considered a top 20 prospect in his own minor league system. As an eighth round pick for New York in 2010, he’s not considered an elite talent.Still, for his current franchise with an anemic offense and little production...

Angels' late rally comes up short vs. Rivera, Yanks

ANAHEIM, Calif. New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera began his Hall of Fame career in 1995 against the California Angels at Anaheim Stadium. He picked up the first of his 632 career saves 51 weeks later against the Angels at the same ballpark. And if Rivera goes through with plans to retire after this season, one of his most dramatic saves ever came yep, against the Angels at...

Yankees Attendance And TV Ratings At Record Lows

This may come as a shocker for most, but believe it or not even the mighty Yankees are having problems selling tickets. With a wave of injuries to key players–Jeter, Teixeira, Arod, Granderson it’s not really a surprise that numbers are down, but what’s shocking is just how much they’ve slumped, despite the Yankees winning ways. The Wall Street Journal reported: Through...

Preview: Yankees @ Angels (6/16/13)

It’s up to CC Sabathia (6-5, 4.07 ERA) to answer the Yankees prayers and stop the skid against the Angels and Jered Weaver (1-2, 3.77 ERA). Sabathia took a step back in his last start after 2 solid outings, allowing six runs (two homers) in a loss to the A’s. His fastball velocity has come back a bit, but he struggled with command in Oakland. “It’s disappointing. It’s definitely...

One Last Reason To Worry

The trade deadline looms.Cashman and his crew of misguided staffers can yet build a fantasy that the Yankees can still win this thing.  Now.  This year.  MO's last season. They can pony up any and all prospects ( I hesitate to name any, because losing Yankee minor league position players is not a big risk ), including some of the players ( mostly pitchers ) who have had a taste...

Mariano Rivera delivers pizza to Oakland A's employee

As New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera continues his farewell tour across the Major League Baseball, he decided to pay his respect one member of the Oakland Athletics organization. Oakland A's mailroom employee Julie Vasconcellos (who have worked from the A's for 20 years) got a special surprise from Mariano as he delivered a pizza to her. Below is the video of the...

Fantasy Baseball Daily League Analysis (June 15, 2013)

My Top 3 Starting Pitchers David Phelps- He is a very good value play at 5500. The xFIP is very good at 3.88 and good K% at 24.2%. While the Angels are not an ideal match up. All you are look for is around 10 points at that price. Lance Lynn- An obvious play as [...]
