TEAMS:

In a relatively slow national signing day, the most dramatic commitment was unleashed after most of the day’s action was in the books. 6′-4″ shooting guard Gary Harris, of Hamilton Southeastern (IN) was expected to sign during the early signing period, but it was unknown exactly when. The super talented wing took a last trip to Michigan State, and was considering the Spartans, along with Kentucky, Indiana and Purdue. Ultimately the last visit made the most impression, as Harris committed to Michigan State tonight, according to multiple reports. Harris is a supreme talent, who is currently starring on the gridiron. At times, Purdue looked like it was in the driver’s seat, but the most recent buzz surrounded Michigan State as the most realistic contender. Harris has the makings of a college basketball star, and will have the opportunity to flourish under coach Tom Izzo, and his staff. He’s the fourth member of Michigan State’s 2012 recruiting class, and the icing on the cake of a...

Spartans and Tarheels Set to Clash on the Flight Deck

I’m currently sitting on the flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson, courtside as it were, where the North Carolina Tarheels are going through their final walkthrough before tonight’s basketball game versus the Michigan State Spartans. A good game to open the college basketball game, for sure. But this is about way more than a game. Tonight at 7pm EST, the Spartans and the Tarheels...

Gary Harris Commits to Michigan State

Spartanmag.com, Dave Telep, and other media outlets are reporting five-star basketball recruit Gary Harris has committed to MSU.  He chose the Spartans over Kentucky, Indiana, and Purdue. Harris, a 6’6″ shooting guard, is ranked as the 25th best player in the class of 2012 by rivals.com.  He is long, athletic, and has an impressive scoring arsenal.  He possesses a...

Michigan State-North Carolina Preview

Tomorrow night will be quite the spectacle.  Michigan State meets #1 ranked North Carolina on the USS Carl Vinson, in what will be a great tribute to our military, and an entertaining basketball game as well. When I say “North Carolina” to Spartan fans, what comes to mind?  I know what I think of.  I reflect on the 2008-2009 season, where UNC trotted out a borderline...

Here’s What A Basketball Court On The Deck Of An Aircraft Carrier Looks Like

Cool. I bet they had “Highway to the Danger Zone” just cranked when the entire time workers were installing the court on the deck of the USS Carl Vinson (a name, which for some reason, makes me think of Jerry Seinfeld’s alias Kel Varnsen) for the 2011 Quicken Loans Carrier Classic game between the Michigan [...]

M. Basketball. Grinz On Green: Spartans Humbled By Opportunity

Austin Thornton has every reason to feel somewhat sheepish and even humbled. On Friday, he and his Michigan State teammates, along with the North Carolina basketball squad, will be cheered, if not exalted, for playing a game with a big round ball.
