Found January 10, 2013 on The Cardinal Connect:
Since returning to the court for Louisville, Gorgui Dieng is picking up right where he left off, prior to suffering a fractured wrist in November. Dieng is averaging 11 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3 blocks in his first three games back with the Cardinals. Those are some pretty impressive numbers for a guy who missed over a month of action. It’s just been three games, but in my opinion, Gorgui is playing better now than he was prior to getting hurt, particularly on the offensive end. Despite the impressive recent performances, Dieng is still looking to improve on the defensive end. Coach Pitino said last night in his post game press conference that Dieng’s timing is still not where it needs to be. When speaking to the media from the locker room, Dieng seemed to agree. “I need to block four or five shots a game,” he said. I think Gorgui is already playing better than we expected at this point. Just imagine when he is finally 100% and no longer has to wear the soft cast on his wrist.

Gorgui stands firm in win over Seton Hall

Not so long ago Gorgui Dieng would have wilted against an imposing 290-pounder like Eugene Teague, unable to stop the Seton Hall behemoth from having his way like he did against freshman Zach Price during his frustrating five minutes against Seton Hall. No offense to Price, a first-year player who is 60 to 70 pounds heavier than Dieng was as a freshman. Gorgui simply wouldn’t allow...

15 games into the 2012-13 season the Louisville Cardinals are 14-1 overall and are ranked No. 9 in the RPI. Louisville’s current strength of schedule ranks No. 22 in the country, but that ranking will likely climb within the next few weeks as the Cardinals are getting ready to hit one of the tougher stretches in their schedule.  After the South Florida game tomorrow afternoon...

Louisville 73 – Seton Hall 58: Cards Move To 2-0 In Big East Play

Louisville’s performance against Seton Hall wasn’t exactly what we’re used to seeing, but all things considered, I think you’ve got to be pleased with a 15-point win on the road. The Cards got off a quick start, but sloppy play midway through the first half kept this one close. The Cards were an impressive 23-of-27 from the free throw line, which more than made up for their...
