The first "big" preseason poll of the college basketball season is out and John Calipari's Kentucky Wildcats are right where we expected them to be, ranked #2 in the land.  North Carolina is ranked number one and got 30 of the 31 first place votes.  Rounding out the top five were Ohio State, UConn, and Syracuse.

Need more proof that Kentucky's 2011 class is loaded?  Marquis Teague, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, and Anthony Davis were named to the Wayman Tisdale Award watch list.  This award is given to the country's top freshman and there are only 12 names on the list, so Kentucky players comprise 25% of the names.  In case you needed some Kyle Wiltjer news, today is his birthday.

There is a bit of refreshing news about former Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie.  Apparently he does not drink anymore and is looking for a fresh start at Texas Tech.  It has been a rough couple of years after UK for Billy G as he was arrested for a DUI, lost his mother, and lost millions in a Ponzi scheme.  No cute jokes about BCG here.  He is the guy that delivered Patrick Patterson and Darius Miller and let's leave it at that and hope he truly does get his life back on track.

Finally  there are a couple of football notes to finish out your afternoon headlines.  There has been been much made about Danny Sheridan's "error" in placing Jacksonville State as a 9 point favorite over Kentucky on Saturday.  Error or not, Kentucky is using that as motivation for Saturday's game

Also there has been a lot of fuss over the attendance at Saturday's game.  Joker has obviously heard the talk as well and John Clay has video of Joker talking about how the Wildcats need the fan support on Saturday.  Look people, there is still half the season to go and believe it or not, a bowl is still possible.  Get out and support your team and give them a home field advantage. Keep following www.wildcatbluenation.com for the best in Kentucky basketball and football news, rumors, and opinions.
