What did we just learn from Joe Paterno? Erecting a statue for someone while they’re still alive and their legacy is not yet fully formed is risky business. And sometimes backfires. There’s already a Cam Newton statue at Auburn. Again, something scandalous could arise, especially given Newton’s past history.
The Bo Jackson statue I’m cool with; his career is long over.
As for the Auburn Tigers this college football season, a step forward? 2011 was rebuilding from the title year of 2010, so now better things are expected. Even though they’re breaking in a new coordinator on each side of the ball

2011 was: a really solid year, with a bowl appearance. Not bad for a re-load. The offense by the numbers wasn’t good, the defense a little better, and the run defense kind of terrible, yet they still had a winning record despite the low national rankings in the major categories. Auburn started 4-1 and went 8-5, 4-4 in conference....

Well, we almost got out of the week without hearing from the Paterno family. Oh so close, but oh so far. This time the Paterno family is formally going after the NCAA.
According to Onward State, lawyers representing the Paterno family sent an official appeal letter to the NCAA offices responding to the sanctions handed to Penn State's football program last week. The appeal...
The Paterno family is still not happy with how the deceased patriarch of the family, former Penn State football head coach Joe Paterno, is being talked about when it comes to the Jerry Sandusky scandal at the school. Even though Paterno passed away months ago, the family is still fighting in his name.
The problem is, the family needs to stop.
I understand that the family feels as...
Comedians are supposed to push the boundaries of good taste, and that’s exactly what Jeffrey Ross did when he showed up to Comedy Central’s taping of the roast of Roseanne Barr dressed as late Penn State football coach Joe Paterno. Ross accentuated the costume with two young men clad in football helmets and towels and nothing else.
The raunchy comic even had a great...
With the new Penn State penalties in place, Bobby Bowden is now the winningest coach in NCAA history.
Except he’s not.
As one of their punishments, Penn State and Joe Paterno “officially” lost 112 wins from 1998 to this past season. However, what does this penalty actually accomplish?
The answer: a whole lot of nothing.
Now, I have to preface this argument by stating that...
Don Van NattaJr., ESPN.com is reporting that the family of Joe Paterno has sent a letter of appeal concerning the NCAA‘s Penn State sanctions. The letter, received by the NCAA on Friday, asks that the sanctions against Penn State and Joe Paterno for covering up the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal be appealed.
A copy of the letter has fallen into the hands of ESPN’s...
In a letter obtained by Kevin Horne at Onward State, the Paterno family has officially not yet learned to leave well enough alone...
The family is filing their own appeal with the NCAA...
The HQ has no idea what they think they're going to attempt to accomplish over something that the university that employed their father has already signed off...
Kansas City StarJuly 29Dear Editor,A July 26 letter tried to explain away Joe Paterno’s actions as keeping “the glorious reputation of its football program clean.”This is where the disconnect is. Defenders of Paterno’s actions don’t seem to realize this major problem: These institutions are elevated to the point of idol worship. They are put above all else, including...
A Penn State trustee said he plans to file an appeal with the NCAA over the strict sanctions imposed on the university for the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.
Trustee Ryan McCombie in a letter to fellow trustees sent Monday wrote he's taking action in the interest of due process and sought an NCAA hearing.
A copy of the letter was obtained by The Associated Press. McCombie...
