Adam Griffin, seen here as a child posing with his father during a ceremony at Ohio State, may not play college football again. Legendary Ohio State running back Archie Griffin remains the only player in college football history to win the Heisman Trophy two different seasons. His son, Adam Griffin, may never win one. The younger Griffin was one of two Ohio State Buckeyes players to likely have their careers cut short as a result of injury, the school confirmed this week. According to College Football Talk, Griffin underwent shoulder surgery Thursday and will not be expected to continue playing football. The other player seeing his career come to an unceremonious end is fifth-year senior defensive back Jamie Wood. Griffin was a fourth-year junior cornerback heading in to the fall who appeared in 12 games last season or Urban Meyer's Buckeyes (CFBStats.com has Griffin down for 10 games with ten total tackles). Griffin played mostly on special teams for Ohio State. The Columbus Dispatch notes Griffin took playing at Ohio State, where his father remains one of the true legends of the program and the game, with grace. From the Columbus Dispatch; He didn’t mind his nickname, “Young Arch,” and spoke often of the honor of being Archie’s son. “I’m pretty comfortable with it,” he said last season. “I’ve grown used to it over the years, just being from around here. It’s really nothing new to me. People kind of recognized me in high school, but not quite to the level I’m recognized now.” Wood had battled multiple shoulder injuries and surgeries as well over his final years at Ohio State. Wood did not play last season and was hoping to return to the team in 2013. He appeared in four games last fall before suffering another injury. Wood has already earned his degree from Ohio State and is currently focusing on grad school in Columbus. Kevin McGuire is the host of the No 2-Minute Warning podcast.
