Southern California quarterback Jesse Scroggins plans to transfer this summer. USC coach Lane Kiffin made the announcement Monday on the school's website. Scroggins hasn't thrown a pass in two seasons with the Trojans. In spring ball, he appeared to be losing the three-way competition with touted prospects Cody Kessler and Max Wittek to back up senior Matt Barkley this fall. Kiffin says Scroggins had a strong academic semester that allowed him to transfer. Scroggins had been slowed by academic difficulties in the past. Along with Kessler and Wittek in 2013, the Trojans also have a commitment from Max Browne from Sammamish, Wash., who's widely considered the nation's top high school quarterback.
