Here's how I rank the Big 12 heading into Week 6: 1. Oklahoma 4-0, 1-0, last week: 3. This week: vs. TCU: The Sooners beat Notre Dame soundly for 60 minutes with a balanced offense and sound defense. They're a narrow Big 12 favorite ahead of Baylor. Blake Bell has given Sooner fans a big reason for optimism after a shaky start for the offense in the first two games of the season. 2. Baylor 3-0, last week: 2. This week: vs. West Virginia: The Bears didn't score a point this week, but only because they were sitting at home on a bye. Art Briles told the Waco Tribune-Herald he knew of Ahmad Dixon's recent incident before the win over Louisiana-Monroe and the Bears' star won't miss any time while dealing with a misdemeanor assault charge against a man who Dixon believed had broken into his home. 3. Oklahoma State 3-1, 0-1, last week: 1. This week: vs. Kansas State: The Pokes had the worst offensive day we've seen from an OSU team since the end of the 2009 season, scoring on just three of 19 possessions. There's plenty of frustration to go around in Stillwater, but you can't discount what OSU did in its first three games and the Cowboys are still a better team right now than undefeated Texas Tech, which has its own offensive issues. 4. Texas Tech 4-0, 1-0, last week: 4. This week: at Kansas: The Red Raiders were off this week, but need to be careful against an improving Kansas team. Lose the turnover battle and this one could get scary. Don't forget: KU went 1-11 and took Tech into overtime late last season. 5. TCU 2-2, 0-1, last week: 5. This week: at Oklahoma: The Frogs looked like the team we thought they'd be in the second half of last week's 48-17 win over SMU. In the first half, though, they looked like a squad that would have trouble winning a game in Big 12 play. The truth is somewhere in the middle, but consistency on both ends of the passing game is needed. 6. West Virginia 3-2, 1-1, last week: 9. This week: at Baylor: There is life in Morgantown! Dana Holgorsen insisted his team wasn't as far off as it looked in last week's 37-0 loss to Maryland. Knocking off Big 12 favorite Oklahoma State and looking like the better team for 60 minutes means he was absolutely correct. I don't quite buy Clint Trickett as the long-term answer just yet, but I'd ride with him until he gives you a compelling, turnover-related reason not to, even after Ford Childress gets healthy. 7. Texas 2-2, 1-0, last week: 6. This week: at Iowa State (Thursday): The Longhorns will head to Ames for a dangerous game against a confident Iowa State team that recently discovered a run game. Texas' season will hinge on next week's game against Oklahoma in Dallas, but the Longhorns can't afford to get caught looking ahead. The Longhorns got passed up in the rankings because WVU has just one embarrassing loss. Texas has two. 8. Kansas State 2-2, 0-1, last week: 7. This week: at Oklahoma State: The Wildcats will get an angry Oklahoma State team in Stillwater this week, but they had two weeks to sort out how the two-quarterback system will work. We'll see if they make it a little more complicated than they did against Texas when Daniel Sams was used exclusively as a runner. 9. Kansas 2-1, last week: 9. This week: vs. Texas Tech: We'll see if the Jayhawks really fixed their WR issues this week in Lubbock. If KU gets its running game rolling behind James Sims and Tony Pierson, it can absolutely beat Texas Tech, whose quarterbacks have struggled in consecutive weeks. 10. Iowa State 1-2, last week: 10. This week: vs. Texas (Thursday): Kansas didn't play and last week's No. 9 team, West Virginia, beat the No. 1 team in last week's power rankings. It'll take more than a win over Tulsa to move up a spot for the Cyclones. Moving forward, there's no such thing as too many touches for Aaron Wimberly. Expect a big-time atmosphere in Ames on Thursday night.
